Four Team Deal Sends Howard to Lakers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor (Dwight says he'll re-sign longterm in LA)

Orlando always wanted Bynum, they just couldn't get the Lakers to take back any bad contracts. That's why all these third team are starting to come up in rumors.

The end of the day I'm thinking it will be a direct trade between the Lakers and Magic.

sorry. no way the Magic are putting themselves in the same position next year that they are right now.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor (Dwight says he'll re-sign longterm in LA)

If we can't get Howard I hope you don't get Bynum. His knees and attitude are ticking time bombs. Houston doesn't want him either.

Um, thanks Rockets fan for the input?

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor (Dwight says he'll re-sign longterm in LA)

Only thing I can think is that Lakers have not given permission to Bynum's camp to talk to Cavs because Lakers have yet to hear assurances from Dwight Howard. Alex Kennedy just tweeted that a moment ago. Bynum's camp sells the story to Jason Lloyd in the meantime to avoid tampering charges, or conspiracy theories. Dwight Howard is the first domino. Once an accurate and reliable report comes out that documents Dwight will sign an extension with Lakers, then I think things will start to heat up with the other moving parts. Right now I just think every one is in damage control and denial mode.

Think of the tweets from earlier. The Bullshit Whisperer says the framework for the deal is in place. Let's stop for a minute and assume that's true. Then quickly he comes back and says Lakers official has denied that claim (possibly because Lakers haven't received word from Dwight Howard). I'm leaning to believe that there is some truth to what The Bullshit Whisperer tweeted, but he either misinterpreted it, or tweeted way too early. Behind closed doors CLE-ORL-LAL have the parts in place, but for this deal only. Magic is taking their good old time to see if something better pops up. Also, Lakers won't budge until they hear from Howard, which means the Cavs won't be able to sign off until Howard commits to LA and the Lakers give Bynum official permission to discuss contracts with Cleveland. Just my 2 cents.

Plenty of reports saying that Orlando is iffy on Bynum and Bynum is iffy on the Magic. From one of the Orlando writers today (http://www.probasketballnews.com/news/sources-howards-lakers-wish-wont-deter-houston/)

"However, Bynum holds the cards here since he’s equally in a position of power entering the final year of his current contract, and he wants no part of Orlando. The Orlando Sentinel’s Josh Robbins reports the Magic have reservations about Bynum’s knees, too, so don’t expect the 2012 Western Conference All-Star starter in Central Florida regardless of who is involved in facilitating a deal."

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor (Dwight says he'll re-sign longterm in LA)

We have Toronto's guaranteed lottery pick for 2013. If it's not between 4-14 it goes on to the next year with continued protection from being late lottery.

We also have Dallas' pick that is top 20 protected so they can only give us the pick if they are a top 10 team (not going to happen). Then it's Unprotected in 2015 which will be good since they are rebuilding.

‏@stevekylerNBA

None of the marquee type players will sign an EXTENSION, they all will get to July and cash much larger checks as unrestricted free agents.

‏@stevekylerNBA

The model going forward is exactly what Deron Williams did... Dwight will do it. Bynum will do it. Josh Smith... #ExtensionsInTheNBAAreDead

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor (Dwight says he'll re-sign longterm in LA)

I believe you can only use the amnesty 1 in the new CBA agreement. That we used on B.Davis so they would be stuck with Hedo.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor (Dwight says he'll re-sign longterm in LA)

Bynum's agent is going to allow him to publicly state something like that? Potentially in the middle of trade negotiations? I just find that hard to believe.

Talks like this are so sensitive that I can't imagine, under any circumstance, an agent going on record and making such assertions. They would just be quiet. If they did publicly comment in the fashion Lloyd is insinuating, it likely would be in an effort to put out an impending fire or dampen outside chatter. It's highly unlikely it would ever be a statement of talks, as they currently stand......it's much more likely Bynum's agent is trying to create some leverage for his client.

The Cavs may not be that involved but using a players' agent to confirm such a thing is not the most reliable way to go about business.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor (Dwight says he'll re-sign longterm in LA)

Hedo has 2 years left on his contract. This year at 11M and next year (not sure about the numbers). Jason Richardson has 3 years left but only 5.8M for this season.

Even if we pick up Hedo we can amnesty him next season as well and not worry about the cap implications from that.

My question about the draft picks that Houston has then. Dwight and Bynum are under contract. Since Houston has a bunch of first rounders (Lamb, White, Jones) they would still have to match salary going out. That would mean Kevin Martin to Orlando for 1 season. The issue is what does Orlando want? If it is draft picks to rebuild then Cleveland has a lot of draft picks (from the Miami trade as well as our own). Whereas Houston only has their own draft picks.

Now Orlando can play Davis at the C position for one year and hope the ping pong balls go their way to get Noel or Cody Zeller

No, we already amnestied a player AND amnestys are not allowed after a player is traded. Only for players that were under contract from the last CBA. They could conceivably try to buy out Turkoglu to reduce the cap hit.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor (Dwight says he'll re-sign longterm in LA)

Rockets fan here to be clear.

Morey (our GM) is going all "Lin" for Dwight Howard only. He doesn't want to give a Max deal to an oft injured Center (Bynum). We've done that before and that's why we're were we are today. Hennigan is trying to get us to up our offer of Rookies, picks, cap space so Morey will wait to see what our cap situation looks like after promising the offer sheet to Omer Asik.

Once the sheet is signed and the Bulls Match/Don't match I expect a real move to happen. Our offer is what stopped Howard from being a Net anyways so why wouldn't they wait.

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor (Dwight says he'll re-sign longterm in LA)

So basically.......

Adrian Woj (Yahoo):

Bynum, 24, has one year left on his Lakers contract, and has a short list of potential teams with cap space and supporting casts that primarily include the Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--nets-emerge-again-as-strong-contender-to-land-dwight-howard.html

Jason Lloyd (Beacon):

David Lee, Bynum's agent, said he was baffled by the recent Yahoo! report that listed Cleveland as a potential. Lee DID NOT say this, but after hanging up with him, I had the distinct impression Bynum is not interested in coming here long term. Again, that is strictly my opinion based on the phone call. The fact is he said they weren't in position to discuss it at this time.

So who would we believe......

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor (Dwight says he'll re-sign longterm in LA)

The Rockets trading for Dwight Howard and giving away picks and young rookies and having him walk away would be beyond idiotic!

Re: Three-Way ORL/LAL/Cavs Rumor (Dwight says he'll re-sign longterm in LA)

The Cavs wouldn't contact Bynum unless the Lakers allowed it, which would mean the talks would be, for all intents and purposes, completed.

The only thing Lloyd has been able to prove so far is that the trade isn't done. So non story to me. The rest of it is just agent talk.

From my understanding you can only Amnesty a player the Cavs signed before the new CBA. Not incoming players. They deadline for this offseason has also passed.
