I understand they are trying to win this year, but I'm not sure how the A's are a better team without Cespedes and with Lester and Gomes.

Cespedes has one more year of team control, currently getting on base at a .300 clip. One of the more overrated players in the game right now, but may be better away from Oakland's spacious park.

That A's pitching staff in a stacked formation playing in a seven game series? Good luck...

I just plain don't understand how the Sox get Lester back if they traded him because the sides were so far apart on contract negotiations...
