Little dude is now mostly past the newborn stage. Depending on criteria, babies stop being newborns at 2 or 3 months. He's over 2 months now, and his personality is starting to emerge. He loves looking at overhead mobiles and swatting at them now. He even grabs them sometimes at this point if they're within reach. He also gets cuter and cuter. Here he is, eyeing the mobile in his larger bassinet to his right:

He's a little over 23 inches and just over 12 lbs now, roughly on pace with other boys his age. He's doing well in tummy time and appears to be developing on proper pace despite being slightly early term (born at 37 weeks and 5 days). He does seem to have some issues with reflux, but we got Rx for infant Pepcid today to help him with that.

Can't wait to see his further development. I hope he takes to basketball like his mommy, as husband isn't into the whole "sportsball" thing, as he calls it. We do hope to get him at least into martial arts, though (husband took that for years). And we'll encourage him in STEM. Husband is great at math and science, and so was my paternal grandfather, who was a Worcester educated engineer.

Woohoo!

Some cool updates, and hope for those who still have to endure the newborn stage: it really DOES get better by the 2nd of 2 months. He turned 12 weeks yesterday, and he's grown by leaps and bounds both mentally and physically. He'll officially be 3 months old on April 5.

I can definitely affirm he's starting the "fun baby" phase. He can also sleep for up to 6 hours at a time, and finally is adjusting to something of a normal day/night schedule, which helps husband as he took over overnight duties again recently so I can tend to the baby more fully in the mornings while he works from home.

Little dude is super playful now and more readily able to communicate his basic needs. He feeds a lot better, reflux has greatly improved, he's a full 14 lbs, and has a big personality already. He's very active in the mornings and evenings, needing lots of gym playtime, crawling time, and swing time. When he gets bored of one activity, he'll cry, and move on to the next. Definitely seems like a little person now and not just a cute little zombie that feeds, sleeps, and soils diapers.

Expecting our first in September so appreciate all the insight above and if anybody has advice, please share! We aren't finding out boy or girl until April 30th, popping a big ballon and exploding confetti of the color. I'm not big into gender reveals but do want to be surprised/do something with the wife. Should be fun. My friends that have kids/are having kids all have girls. I know of one person that has had a boy in the last 12 months. Everybody, my parents/in laws, seem to think we're having a girl. I'm truly not biased and excited either way.

Big congrats!

I had a thread on newborns specifically awhile back -- some good advice and discussion there: https://realcavsfans.com/index.php?threads/newborn-thread.51295/

I was one of those who wanted to find out the gender immediately and start making plans, so I took the NIPT early in pregnancy. I was kind of expecting a boy because I had a ravenous appetite and was unusually energetic and productive throughout the first trimester, and it turns out that was the case. Husband and I were also going to be excited either way, though he had a slight preference for a girl and I had one for a boy, and my preference ended up winning out...lol. Our little guy is truly a joy and is getting so fun now that he's past the newborn stage and can do more. He's officially three months today, and we had a fun stroll and picture taken. Haven't been on here the last few days because he's way more fun than the Cavs are now...LOL!

Cavs didn't make the playoffs. Cheer yourself up by looking at a sweet baby! Or are you excited we got a pick? Adorable baby will make you even happier!

He can now roll over and sleep through the night sometimes. He also smiles spontaneously when seeing either Mommy or Daddy. He's getting kind of big, though. He still wants to feed every 3 hours, and it's hard to limit him to 32 oz per day like CDC recommends. If Little Dude had his way, he'd eat 36 to 40 a day. Not sure where he got this since Husband and I aren't big eaters. Not too worried though...not sure I've mentioned this before, but Little Guy has PKU, so he'll have to be on a restricted diet for life.

Turning 4 months old tomorrow.

Gotta be honest...he's my highest priority now. Not following the playoffs, not the latest beer, not my 2K player, not my basketball card collection...it's this little dude. All my other hobbies take a backseat, or get removed altogether at times if they get in the way of taking care of him.

(I DO want to see if he gets into basketball, though! I'll let you guys know :))

Look who turned 5 months on Sunday!

He slept almost 11 hours last night and seems to finally be over his 4 month sleep regression. He can roll over in all directions now and just gets more social and sophisticated all the time!

So our daughter was due on August 10th, but due to some complications with her heart and some bleeding in the womb, she was delivered on June 3rd 2022.

She's 10 weeks early and has spent time in two NICUs and a cardiac ICU. She's finally stable and making solid progress. We won't be able to take her home for 8 to 10 weeks. I cant wait for that day to come. Being in the NICU is something we never thought we would experience. The nurses have been great and everyone has been informative and friendly.

Those of you that have said that you just kind of figure out a way to survive these first few weeks weren’t lying.

We have a house full of tired but otherwise happy and healthy humans and pets. Our animals have taken to our daughter immediately - especially our dog, who is generally anxious and untrusting of strangers. It’s hard to explain, but she shows genuine concern whenever our daughter starts crying and wants to hang out around her all the time.
