Jess Todd promoted, Veras Designated for assignment

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What did I say that was wrong there?

You know he has a better chance of being good because he comes from the Cardinals and isn't a homegrown. AFAIK he doesn't have electric stuff either.

Just because doesnt have "electric stuff" wont determine this guys future. He is a good around pitcher that has a lot of value. I would prefer a guy that has good arsenal of pitches then someone who has two very good pitches and the rest are just okay.

Great, I'm just saying this guy has what 4 innings at Columbus and everyone is pumped to bring him up....

Maybe it's the fact that he's dominated the Minors and is ready for the big leagues.

So have a lot of guys....

We'll see what Todd brings. I was happy when we got him.

The DeRosa is turning in our favor if Todd can become a sold pitcher, Perez looked solid, he had lots of control

Why the hell do we have 8 Relievers anyway?

The BP needs 8 guys to keep their Madden tournament bracket full.

With Masterson being transitioned back to the rotation, having an extra guy helps since he will no doubt be a 5-inning guy. The rotation already has two other 5 inning guys in Huff and Sowers, but they aren't that way b/c of a pitchcount limit.

I don't get the 8-man BP either, though. At least now it is all prospects, and you still have Raffy Perez to work back in eventually. All I can think is that they have LaPorta penciled into the lineup next year regardless, so they figure they should use this time to evaluate Marte, Gimenez and Toregas. That is one of my guesses, and I think it does make sense IF that is why they still have him @ AAA.

Another factor is if we hold him off, we can push his Free Agency / Arbitration out another year... which saves a cheap franchise like ours some money in the long run. Delmon Young bitched to the media about a similar situation with Tampa Bay a few years back.

I dont think that is playing a factor at all. For this season to count as a full year towards FA, he would have to have been up here months ago. Even if recalled last month this year would not count as a full season towards FA. Also, he was recalled earlier this year and given a chance to take a regular spot. If the Indians were worried about Super 2 status then they would have never brought him up then. Had he hit, he would have stuck b/c Francisco was doing terribly at the time.

Not totally directed toward you but he was pitching very well before he was traded also:

Heres a quote from the Plain Dealer:

Todd was acquired July 26 as the player to be named in the June 27 trade that sent Mark DeRosa to St. Louis for Perez. In three appearances with the Clippers, Todd earned a save and gave up one hit and struck out seven in four innings. He has spent the majority of the season at Class AAA Memphis, going 4-2 with 24 saves and a 2.20 ERA in 41 games. He struck out 59 in 49 innings. His 25 combined saves ranked fifth in the minors entering Wednesday.

Todd, 23, a second-round pick by St. Louis in 2007 out of Arkansas, made his major-league debut June 5 against the Rockies. He gave up two runs in 1 2/3 innings. He was optioned to Memphis the next day.

Todd was the Cardinals' Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2008. He relies on a fastball/cutter/sinker mix. He said the fastball sits at 90-91 miles per hour and that the cutter is his best pitch.

Pitched an inning of scoreless relief in the 9th tonight, with a strike out. Had some good movement on his pitches.

Todds got some nasty stuff

He was very impressive in his debut..

Gave up a leadoff single, but was very poised & like you said, had a lot of movement on his pitches..

Very impressed..

Ten bucks says he gets hit like a truck in the majors.

Then again, he came from another (quality) organization so I might be wrong on that.

Pay up.

I was wrong up him too. So the two relievers we got in the deal for DeRosa are looking very good. Perez settling in, he has allowed only two hits in nine scoreless innings his last eight outings.

Young guys looking good, good sign for the future.

One outing and he's the messiah?

I never said his first start.

Still, he looked good.
