Jess Todd promoted, Veras Designated for assignment

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Can you throw in the 90s with a good slider? And be able to strike out a Major Leaguer like Joe Crede?

I didnt say i could get any outs.

I can reach the 80s on my fastball and i have an above average curveball.

You can bet your butt that LaPorta is still in the minors because of the danger of his being a 'Super 2'.

Note the following:

What Players Are Eligible for Arbitration?
A player and club who cannot agree on a contract may agree to salary arbitration, provided that the player has enough service time in the majors. The following players are eligible for arbitration:

(1) Players with at least 3 but less than 6 years of service in Major League Baseball;

(2) The top 17 percent of players with at least 2 but less than 3 years of Major League service. These are known as “Super 2” players. To qualify as a Super 2, a player must have accumulated at least 86 days of service in the previous year. Historically, the cutoff point for Super 2 status is 2 years, 128 days of service, though the requirement has been as high as 2 years, 140 days in years past.

The Indians don't want Laporta anywhere near arbitration.

Tampa did the same thing with David Price.

We did bring LaPorta up once and he didn't do squat. Granted, Wedge is an idiot and played him like once every 3 days.

And the Orioles with Weiters

He did hit a bomb in Toronto, showed "some" power

I remember that. One home run and batted below the mendoza IIRC

Wedge is absolutely the wrong manager to lead any MLB team, most particularly one dependent on developing young players. During his entire tenure in Cleveland, he has repeatedly demonstrated that he would rather play a sucking veteran than a kid who struggles the one game Wedge plays him a week.

Dolan might 'save' money by retaining Wedge next season, thus not paying 2 managers. But he should realize that right now he isn't even paying one.

LaPorta passed his Super 2 deadline a month ago.

The reason he isn't up here is because... because the front office loves Toma Ohka and grinders like Chris Gimenez.

LaPorta isn't up right now because he's going to be with the major league club next year no matter what happens. He's a lock to be the opening day 1st baseman or left fielder. An extra month and a half of major league at bats isn't going to change LaPorta's situation in my opinion. The team wants him to work on his defense at first base too down in Columbus so that's another factor.

More then anything, they want to get an extended look at Andy Marte and see if he can handle being an every day major league player. If he can, then it effects which position LaPorta starts at next year.

Andy Marte still sucks.

Actually he's looking a little better with improved plate discipline, for sure, a little better eye. We'll see what happens.

I agree with you here. I don't expect Marte to make it in the majors unfortunately. Fact is though, these last two months are his "final audition" so to speak. The Indians need to know if he can hack it or not. LaPorta is in the future plans no matter what happens ya know?

LaPorta's not up because he is pretty much a lock to start next year, they need to see if Marte can hit at the major league level, and since they want to keep Peralta in the lineup for at least the end of this year, Marte will only find at bats at 1st. They should just shut down Sizemore, move Crowe to CF, and LaPorta to LF. We'd probably get better actually, Sizemore has been dead weight this year with his injury.

Andy Marte's eye looks great. He just sucks at hitting once he swings.

I don't understand why he's not up here either..

But IMO, it's good that we find out what we have w/ Gimenez now.. especially w/ our other catchers we have.. Not to mention he can play multiple positions and is basically in a super utility role right now, so he's not really the problem or the reason why LaPorta isn't up..

Ohka is still here because once Masterson goes into the rotation, we're still gonna need a long man (unless I'm missing somebody)..

But 1 of these relievers is going to be gone soon, I'm guessing, so we should see LaPorta soon..
