Joe "Captain America" Harris

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If he does only gets his minutes in garbage time, I'm sure we'll be seeing him plenty... -knock on wood- I think that's good for his current role, which should expand in the years to come if he stays with us.

If Mike Brown were still the coach this kid would never get off the bench. :chuckle:

I'm know it's a joke, but I don't know what the punch line is.

Is the punch line that Mike Brown would probably give all the backup SG minutes to Delly instead of Harris like he did last year when Delly got minutes over Felix and Karasev?

Or is the joke here that that people don't seem to know that David Blatt has a reputation of benching the young guys signed by the front office ( such as Milan MacVan or Malcom Thomas) in favor of giving all the minutes to his favorite vets that know his system? Blatt has a lot of strengths as a coach, but it's been said that player development is his weak spot.

This is true, Blatt is a "here and now" type of coach. Like he said after the loss to Dallas, he is a bad loser.
So he never put in favor the future of the club by cultivating young players who right now can't produce in the favor of winning games right now - and Blatt loves to win.
There's light and shadow to Blatt's personality, and as Douglar said young players development is not his strength.
But if a young player can produce here and now, and I see Joe Harris as one, he will get his minutes out there...

I think there will be many games where Blatt will rest his horses with a big lead.

Harris looked good in this game

How many minutes should he get per game

Joe made at least one three in every preseason game he played in (9/21 - 42.8%).

I liked his driving/cutting ability to the basket, his defense was pretty good for a rookie (was prone to fouling, though). However, he didn't shoot great overall from the field (37.5%).
Overall, I liked his demeanor, his poise, and his play. Hopefully we keep him around. As said, he won't get many regular minutes in the regular season, but...

If injuries pop up for guys in his spot, I'm not going to be sweating bullets with Joe Harris stepping into the rotation.

Can a mod change the thread title to smokin' Joe Harris please. Signed Austin Carr.

He shouldn't get much but to be honest with you, he should get minutes over Mike Miller if he continues to bring nothing to the court

We signed Mike Miller for what he'll bring in May and June, not October.

I've been pleasantly surprised with Harris' ability to put the ball on the floor and adjust to the speed of the game.

It certainly helps that he's not thrust into a place where he needs to play a large role. His role is going to be as a shooter, so he's going to get floor experience while only having to really fill that one responsibility. A very healthy situation for his development. I expect the Cavs to continue to draft role players for match-up purposes in the playoffs. If they are going to be able to ease into the rotation, the Cavs may just be a very good spot for able rookies.

I said if Miller keeps bringing nothing to the court Harris should play... Just because we signed him for May and June doesn't mean we will force play him in May and June if he's playing like shit, instead of playing a better player in Joe Harris because he's a rookie.
