JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
One of the things that makes JR so valuable is that if he misses a few shots he doesn't pout and sulk. He contributes in a lot of ways and also has some self awareness and stops launching so many shots. It will make the year for me to watch him light up OKC while Dion desperately shoots up one brick after another. Make it so, JR.

Why do we still bring up the Waiters person? Our Pipes is +33 once again filling up the stat sheet and Mr. "I'm actually you know" is -17 and 8 points for 8 shots tonight. He's probably never gonna flourish in any team outside San Antonio.

Is Dion even at JR's level during JR's rookie / soph year or is Dion already better than him during that time cause its just unfair to compare JRs prime to a beginner.

Trade day there were two types of posts about Smith.

"Why did we have to take in JR Smith omg hes a cancer, Griffin is a horrible GM."

Or

"Hes pretty much the same player as Dion but worse."

Now 9 games in all you can do is love him. Dude has done his job since game one. Its been said in almost every game i watched that he played in. About how he could so great if he focused. Well this is who they were talking about.

There were quite a few of us who thought JR could do everything Dion does and better while also having a superior size for a 2 guard and being used to the bench role.

One thing that does surprise me about him is that he has a really nice post entry pass and seems to use angles very well.

This coudve been waiters but o well

No it couldn't have. JR Smith is a far superior athlete, shooter, and all-around basketball player. The knock has always been his attitude / locker room fit

I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop, but he's been a dream fit so far. When he chucks, he's chucking 3s, not step back 2s. When he chucks, he's chucking quickly and not holding the ball forever and a day.

He's how a chucking 2 guard should look. He moves w/o the ball and he doesn't hesitate, even if it's not the best shot. He knows that's his role and he's willing to pay the price if he's not making shots.

He's just decisive. Love tries to make a move or react to someone else's move before shooting. If he just let it fly at the opportunity like Smith, he'd average 25.

Who would have thought JR Smith was going to be an impact player for us?

JR is so athletic it's not even funny. He gets incredible lift on all his jumpers, that's the one thing that separates him from he who must not be named. I also agree that he's very decisive in what he's going to do and that's shoot. And honestly I don't mind that because I've never seen a player that athletic who's so confident in his jump shot. You could just tell JR feels that every jumper he takes should be swish.

i'm starting to think we should keep starting him. I think playing with Lebron and Kyrie keeps him grounded and he can do what he's elite at which is spot up for 3 and work off whatever the big 3 gives him.
With the 2nd unit I'm afraid he's going to go out there and do whatever he wants which could bring back bad habits.

As long as the second unit has one of LeBron or Kyrie, it won't be an issue.

Missed the game today but delighted to see JR doing well. JR is love. JR is life.

JR has been playing well and hopefully winning and playing with Lebron and Co. will keep it going. I have to say that on top of his shooting, he's been playing much better on defense than I was expecting.

He fits very nicely in the starting lineup and I think it really helps the team that we have three above average ball handlers that can bring the ball up the court and lead a fast break. Sometimes all it takes is a step and toss an alley oop from half court. :chuckle: All three players do a very good job of looking for the next pass up the court and mixing all of that with Love's outlet passes should lead to a lot of fastbreak opportunities.

Biggest thing with JR is his body language when he struggles or even just misses shots. Dion just always looked miserable when shit didn't go his way. That had to have an effect on the rest of the team.

Dion: 33 G, 22 3PTm (86 3PTa), four 20pt games, one double digit FGm game
J.R.: 9 G, 29 3PTm (73 3PTa), four 20pt games, two double digit FGm games

-Four 20pt games for Smith in 9 games as a Cav, Dion had four in his last 36 games as a Cav.

-Smith has five games with at least three 3 point makes as a Cav, Dion had five such games in his last 48 games as a Cav.

-Smith has three games with at least five 3 point makes. Dion had one in his entire tenure here.

That doesn't even tell the whole story. Same assists, but JR is doubling dion in rebounds (and this is with MOZ adding a third top notch rebounder), and their shooting percentages are in different realms.

Right now, JR is shooting 40% from 3 while taking a healthy 8 a game.

First time in the last decade that a 3 point shooter didn't check their skills at the Cleveland airport on their way into town.
