I'm not sure why you're referencing Haywood's metrics when he hasn't played meaningful NBA minutes for several years now.
The answer is so obvious that I can't figure out whether you're purposely being a douchewaffle or just really,
really thick.
For now, I'll just assume you didn't think it through or mistakenly missed the point and try to help you understand as clearly as I can:
1. Everything I said about Perkins
stands alone, no matter whom you compare him to, or make no comparison at all. (As seemed clear to me.) It wasn't solely a comp-based post.
He's a losing player by his own statistical measurements. I don't understand how you missed that but since you did, let's repeat it here, and with emphasis.
2. You also failed to mention that I also compared him to Dalembert. Nice job cherry picking just one comp.
3. You've of course overstated your case. He was injured last year. Obviously he didn't play. Genius. This year, he's capable of playing--and
has done so. Haywood has played 18 games and averaged about 5 minutes per game this season.
This is important. Because
that is just about how much playing time would be available to a backup to the backup bigs IN THE PLAYOFFS.
THE issue for any acquisitions: who can give a quality 5-8 minutes in the playoffs? That is all that the backup to the backups will play.
It simply doesn't matter if Perkins has or is capable of playing more minutes, he
won't get the opportunity.
4. If the Cavs
already have a player on the team that does the similar things that another player does, and they would be competing for the exact same limited minutes, THEN it makes sense to wonder if it's worth brining in Perkins.
5. Understanding the kind of potential impact a player can have in relation to other players is useful. That is, in fact, what we all constantly do, you included.
And specifically comparing him to an old, broken-down, and crappy player like Haywood was entirely intentional. Apart from minutes played this season-- which is irrelevant to the Cavs playoff rotation-- that was to shock people into realizing what Perkins actually is, not what we wish him to be.
6.
We will close with the key point of the post: will Perkins move the needle for the Cavs? I
didn't just comp him to Haywood (or Dalembert), I gave you my guess as to the answer to that question: No.
No, Perkins would probably
not move the needle for the Cavs and he might even contribute to the Cavs
losing games.
How you cannot understand such a clear and obvious thing truly baffles me.
