Here are some numbers I have a real problem with:

Cavs over all record last year, 33-49 40% winning percentage
71 games Kyrie played in, 27-43 38% winning percentage
11 games Kyrie missed, 5-6 45% winning percentage

All six losses were to playoff teams by nine points or less.

How many other teams play better without their star player?

The games that Kyrie missed were toward the end of the season after Bynum was gone and they were playing better in general. You act like we had a steady situation last year for those numbers to mean anything.

Three of the games Kyrie missed were in early Janurary, the Cavs went 1-2. Kyrie missed 8 games in late March, the team went 4-4. During that stretch, the Cavs lost to the Heat by 4 with Lebron scoring 43. Also lost, to the Thunder by 7, Durrant scored 35. Lost to the Rockets by 7, Harden scored
37. The Cavs won games against the Knicks, the Pacers, the Pistons, and the Raptors.

When Kyrie returned, the Cavs were close to the final playoff spot, and had 7 highly winnable game left. Kyrie's first game back, the Cavs beat Orlando by 21. The Cavs finished the season 2-4, with wins against the Pistons, who didn't want to move up from 9th spot in the draft, and a 29 point win against the Nets, who were preparing for the playoff. The Cavs lost to Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, and Milwaukee. I wouldn't call that playing better in general.

Tony Parker was molded by Pop since he was a rookie. I do agree that Kyrie can be a rich man's Parker, he has all the talent in the world, just needs to use it better.

Defense is pretty similar :chuckles:

Kyrie would do well to study a little Tony Parker tape. The way he has his quick one or two step moves to test the defense within the system is exactly what will help make Kyrie a more efficient player.

And he's already one of the handful of players to ever average 80-60-40. And he's only 22?

If trading Dion Waiters nets us Kevin Love, then I'm all for it. Of course we would have to have Lebron say he was signing as well. We get all that. However, I don't know why everyone wants to ship Dion out for just about anything? Dion is a stud! Dion has shown how much hard work had paid off for him from his first two seasons. He can be an unstoppable player in this league. People don't realize how having both Kyrie and Dion in the same back court = LETHAL for defending teams. This teams is going to be tough to stop within a few years if we keep these young guy's to gel together.

I agree, you don't deal Dion for just anything. He's that type of guy who would be valuable in the playoffs. We've seen him be a very solid defender at times... It's also crucial to have guys who can create shots for themselves and teammates in the postseason.

Will these be the two to lead Cleveland to its first championship in forever?

Also, must take into account sample size. Often teams can hold up a couple games without their star players and the role players step their game up and are more aggressive, but after a while the teams will fall back to normal and struggle without their star.

No he's not.

You're the only person who thinks he sucks, think about that for a minute.

I hope you're right, Kyrie is one of the best young player in the league. I thought the Cavs had way more talent than their record reflected last year. I would be nice to see that talent show up in the win column.

I agree. I think the Bynum sideshow to start the season didn't help. It clearly didn't help them have focused practices. I also don't think Mike Brown has ever had much of a gift for helping players grow on the offensive side. He teaches defensive fundamentals, but I question much of his strategy and his inability to adjust properly. He also usually did not like playing young players. There are exceptions (like Delly - who was older coming in and probably more mature). The Earl Clark experiment didn't help matters last year either. I tend to think that each player's role and what was expected were not clearly defined.

They won 33 and I think there was talent to reach 41 or better with proper coaching and a good environment. I think that will improve this year and I believe the coaching will be much better. The coaches will find ways to put players into good situations that can maximize their potential. A good coach can make a huge difference in basketball. He gives direction to his staff and gets his players to buy in. I don't think the team ever bought into Mike Brown. If they buy into Blatt - and I think they will - a huge step forward is possible.
