Matt Barnes agrees to 2 yr/$3.2 mil w/ Orlando (pg. 34)

Re: Matt Barnes Watch 2009

Thank god Ferry and co. realize how little Matt Barnes would bring to this team.

He's not that good people, there's a reason we aren't in a hurry to offer him a contract.

Re: Matt Barnes Watch 2009

matt barnes will have no effect on whether or not this team wins the championship or not. everybody loves to make a move, just to make a move. if he signs, great, if he doesn't, great. whatever, we're talking about Matt Barnes.

Re: Matt Barnes Watch 2009

Barnes is a great guy that just wants to win. He'll do whatever it takes to win a championship and put a W in the win column. He offers the hustle and stroke that we could add to our bench, and I think he would be a very key signing.

What the hell is it with people making Barnes seem like he's a good shooter? What "stroke" are we talking about here? The guy is a 33% shooter from 3. That's hardly better than LeBron. The guy can not shoot, for Christ's sake.

There is an effect. We get some good depth, right now our roster is no where near completely finished...

Mo/Gibson
West/Parker/Green/Kinsey

Guard rotation: Almost complete, need a pure back-up PG, a vet
------------------------
LeBron/?
Andy/DJ/JJ

Forward rotation: Nowhere near completion. Need a quality back-up for LeBron who can move him to the 4 at times (sure Parker can play some 3, but a true 3 like Barnes would be better). In need of a 'stretch' 4, someone who can play some big minutes behind Andy. Wally, Joe Smith, or Linas Kleiza. Possibly even Barnes. Kurz is a 8-10 MPG guy.
-------------------------
Shaq/Big Z

Center rotation: Set.

That's 12 players right there. A vet pg, a back up SF, and a shooting PF ready to play some good NBA minutes would move guys like Green, Kinsey, and Hickson to the inactive list. Hopefully we release Kinsey.

I hope we get him. I think that he would have a solid contribution. His hustle is what I like about him, and the fact that he can score. Sure he is not the most consistant guy out there, but he can score. I have always liked this guy and I hope the Organization makes it happen.

I just hope he is there in 2-3 weeks. Who knows

Re: Matt Barnes Watch 2009

I haven't been the biggest proponent of Matt Barnes, but again, for a reasonable contract he doesn't hurt our depth. Look at how our bench vanished against Orlando. It doesn't hurt having decent role players. If Danny Ferry was able to sign Anthony Parker to a 2 year $5.5M contract and the desire to play for Cleveland is strong enough on Barnes' part, Ferry may be able to snag him for a bargain price.

Barnes or any other swingman just cannot take precedence to addressing the PF spot. It was, and still remains, the most important thing to address.

Re: Matt Barnes Watch 2009

Cause hopefully Ferry is more interested in finding a starting power forward.

Re: Matt Barnes Watch 2009

Just wondering -- why is the cavs not thinking about Joe Smith coming back. There has GOT too be a reason why -- i understand his knees are bad but come on! He is basically what we need if we cant land Klezia or Barnes. He is a good stretch 4, who is a decent help defender.

I mean -- why is no one talking about Joe .. NO ONE! I wouldnt mind just having him come back -- starting him but only playing him 20-22 minutes a game -- and have andy and lebron split the rest of the minutes at the 4.

Inconsistent jumper.
No strength. No quickness. = Bad defender.

I really dont think that is what he is doing. I too wish it were so, but it became apparent long ago that he is not looking for a new starter power forward to stretch 4 or connect 4 or whatever the kids call it these days.
Just got to accept it and move on. Embrace the small things in life.

Re: Matt Barnes Watch 2009

Remember how a lot of fans got mad thinking the AV contract was actually 6 yrs/50 mil? But it came out to like 42.2 mil, and all of a sudden Ferry was a genius? Then after that, people were like wtf why are we spending 3 mil of the MLE on Parker? But in reality its a 2 yr/5.5, and again we praised Ferry?

So let's hope that all this news about wanting Kurz, not wanting Barnes, turns out to be something genius from Ferry. Because that's what he is...a genius at the GM position.

Hi Mrs Ferry! How's Bob?

Re: Matt Barnes Watch 2009

i say if he wants to come here sign him.

and let kinsey go (he's looked bad in vegas).

we can fly with parker, barnes, boobie, and green.

Re: Matt Barnes Watch 2009

Shaq/Z
Andy/DJ/JJ
LeBron/Barnes?
Delonte/Parker/Green/Kinsey
Mo/Gibson

Guard rotation looks good but I'd rather drop Kinsey and sign a vet PG at the vet min. LeBron would have a quality back up who can move him to PF for minutes at a time, and the C's def. look good. Sign Barnes and Joe Smith and we're good to go. :D Well, I'd still like Kleiza if possible.

these are my thoughts exactly.
