Matthew Dellavedova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Once and for all...Delly never played rugby...very few people play rugby in Victoria where he is from, that would be like saying all kids from Montana play lacrosse...at best he played a little underage Aussie Rules Football...nothing to do with what he played...he just wants the ball more than anyone else on the floor

I wouldn't feel so bad, Lebron got it wrong too.

However, Lebron does attribute his "Aussie Rules" to his success.

Having played Rugby and basketball, yes playing Rugby where you grind away and are running for the ENTIRE game has a lot to do with how he plays. I am going to assume Aussie Rules is more like that than Regular Football where you are just sprinting all out then nothing.

Certain sports absolutely help others. If you've played Basketball (or Hockey) you've probably noticed you understand cuts and D in indoor soccer.

Rugby or similar sports where you leave it all out and play the entire game (less soccer, but probably look at Varejao) certainly influence.

On the contrary, Aussie Rules is a lot more physically demanding. The ball is kicked ~150 feet every movement, and the whole team has to run with the play. Each quarter is 30 minutes long and they end up running around 15 miles each in on average 90 minutes of field time. Probably explains Delly's huge tank!

I love my Australian Football but American sports trump ours in terms of coaching, the strategy and tactics of gridiron and basketball are an order of magnitude more complex than Aussie Rules or Rugby League.

As completely weird as it sounds for an undrafted backup PG, I wonder if Delly is starting to get significant respect from the refs. When was the last time a foul was called on him that he didn't deserve, or at least one that didn't look legit?

Think about it. He's guarding the MVP like a glove, but he's never been in foul trouble. They're letting him play that defense, and sure, he's clean, but wouldn't you think the superstar would be getting a few phantom calls? It'd be easy to call as close as Delly guards him. But no.

I think the refs may be, in some sense, as charmed by Delly as everyone else. How can you love the game enough to become an NBA ref, and not love the way he plays? Plus, he seems to be very polite, doesn't whine when he gets blasted....

I think they like the guy.

This is certainly a possibility, and I'm sure it's partly this, but Delly has very good fundamentals, which makes it tough to call anything on him. He keeps his hands up & shuffles his feet

A good portion of the calls on the perimeter, especially for a ball handler like Curry, happen with the hands. It's tough to call a hands foul on a guy who constantly defends with his hands up in the air, shuffling his feet stride for stride, making sure his body doesn't go forward into the offensive player.

I still get confused by referee (umpire?) rulings in Aussie Rules, and a lot of its rules. I think Australians do quite well at coaching it though because it's the most damn complex sport I've ever seen in my life. Seems like a big mix of everything, would be an absolute nightmare to try get players to do a game plan.

Can we not bring up Fedora's name right now? His irritating, pompus personality makes me want to banish him to the Quad universe .
Delly doesn't need to go to the hospital..he needs this..dude balled..after he gets all those fluids, that belly will need some bulk food...

He's also very good at showing his hands though, which is what gets a lot of other players in trouble (hand use that is).

And the problem is.........? :conf (11):

Unquestionably. And I think that's part of the reason refs consider him a clean player, and why they don't bail out Curry even when some of the bodying might be questionable to some.

The game plan for Aussie Rules is usually the same as the one employed by two seagulls fighting over a french-fry.

She reminds me of Tina Fey for some reason. Anyway, I'm a little worried about his trip to the hospital and the cramping. Do we know that's all it was?
