Offseason Rumors

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What if Aiken is the next Babe Ruth? Maybe we could have him hit the days he decides not to pitch.

Sandy is sticking around according to Hoynes. Inked a two year extension with an option (probably to replace Terry after we repeat and he decides to ride off into the sunset).

WRONG Aiken will not be up that early and you are putting undue expectations I him. He will be up no earlier than August and it will be in the playoffs that he assumes the title of ace of the staff.

I'm just wondering why Aiken didn't go straight to the pitching rotation the day he signed. I realize he had Tommy John surgery in March, but we're talking about Brady Aiken here.

Nexan Heroes are posting their first baseman, Byung-ho Park.

He's 29, has hit 50+ homers in each of the last two seasons in the KBO. Strikes out alot. Former teammate of the Pirates infielder Kang, who posted last year.
I see two scenarios:

1. Cheap Indians do not put in bid, Park signs and his on to be a productive major leaguer.

2. Indians do pony up, fans deride move, Park flops.

I do wonder if Kangs moderate success has an impact on Parks cost. Being limited to 1b might keep his options limited. Him and Carlos Santana look to have similar swings:

Any chance the Tribe could show interest in this guy, assuming he opts out of his NPB contract?

Doesn't really strike me as the type of guy they'd go after.

He's likely north of 300 pounds, will be 33 when the season starts.

Looking at his numbers, looks like he's regressed pretty badly in recent years as well.

I'm hesitant on Carrasco... but, damn, that'd be one intriguing move.

@AZ_ (b00bie) - who is your dream choice for a free agent, price not an option.

Probably Jason Heyward.

Only 26, provides 2-3 WAR defensively in the outfield, swing projects well to Progressive Field.

Look at it from this perspective, then: he will have no posting fee, he will be cheap due to the noted issues (age, has to prove himself, limited to 1b or dh), team could cut the cord easily if he doesn't work out. As for his 'regression' I think you are looking at the drop his numbers took when he left the KBO for the Japanese League. His OPS this past season was his best in the JPL. His Ks rose but his OBP stayed the same and that bump in Ks was accompanied by allot more hits.

I think the Tribe is a good fit if they bring him in as part of a platoon. Team has to be creative in looking for power and he would be a creative and cheap option.

Fangraphs predicts the Indians will sign Colby Rasmus:

The Indians need a center fielder, and preferably one who can hit for a little bit of power, as their line-up leans a bit too much towards slap-hitting at the moment. That combination isn’t super easy to find this winter, but Colby Rasmus does provide enough defense to cover the position and some legitimate thump in his bat, so I have the Indians adding Rasmus for $42 million over three years.

McCovey Chronicles has them signing Chris Davis

Sporting News listed Cleveland as one of the 10 best destinations for Jason Heyward

Jason Heyward is so far out of the Indians price range, and I imagine Chris Davis as well.

I could get behind signing Rasmus.
