I dunno, a Davis-less Pelicans team recently went 5-1 without him :chuckle:

Anthony Davis.
PER: 31.6
FG%:.545
REB: 10.3
BLK: 2.8
PTS: 24.2

Guy is filthy.

Will likely be the best player in the NBA in 2 years.

Screw Harden. He doesn't deserve it. He is a one-way player that gets 30% of his points from bailout calls by the referees. He wouldn't be anywhere near as good if the league hadn't been pussified after the Jordan era.

Steph Curry is the best player on the best team. He's the favorite, in my opinion.

Can't overlook what Westbrook has been doing, either. He is single-handedly keeping the Thunder in the playoff race without Durant, and when Durant comes back they might just be one of the scariest eighth seeds ever.

Anthony Davis should definitely get some consideration, as well. He's having a ridiculous year on both sides of the basketball and he has the Pelicans a half game out of eighth in the Western Conference. He's already the best power forward in the game and will probably be the best player in the game within the next few years.

And then there's LeBron... no doubt he is valuable to this team, as evidenced by their terrible record without him, but I don't know how good I'd feel giving it to someone who has missed so much time this year and was, by his own admission, in "chill mode" for the first couple of months of the season.

Anthony Davis had the best PER in NBA history thus far this season. And he's only 21 years old....

Shit, he's going to dominate this league for the next decade.

@brownsbuck6 , I liked your post for the rational argument.. Makes sense..

But.... look at what you've done here. You've rationalized why LeBron should not win, and then handed the award to Curry who is likely the least capable of all the players listed.

James >>>>>> Westbrook > Harden > Curry.

I dunno, we all have our own definitions of MVP. But to me, from a literal standpoint, LeBron James is by far the most valuable player in the NBA. Hell, none of the guys mentioned are more valuable than Anthony Davis if we're going to keep it 100.

I just don't like all of the qualifications and rationalizations that disqualify guys like James and yes, even Davis, from consideration.

Like you said, there are many interpretations of this award. If the award is "best player in the NBA" then LeBron would have 10 of them already. But it's more nuanced than that, and so some intangible qualifications must be applied to even bother having this conversation. I guess you could say, those are my intangible qualifications.

Oh no doubt the guy is a beast. And I believe a top 5 MVP candidate. But using your interpretation/criteria of MVP, the Pelicans recent win streak without him seemed pretty funny.

Sad thing is, if LeBron doesn't brick all those FTs against Houston and the Cavs win that game, he is probably currently the frontrunner for MVP.

It's not going to happen, but I'd love LeBron to win his 5th MVP to pass Jordan, Wilt, and Bill Russell for second most all-time (behind Kareem's 6). I know it's crazy speculative, but if LeBron wants to catch Michael Jordan as the greatest basketball player of all-time (at least in my opinion) he's got to continue racking up the hardware; MVPs, Finals MVPS, rings... he's got a shot.

If we were first in the East, I think they would have a hard time not giving it to LeBron. Even though 2nd seed is still pretty amazing being it's the first year together and where he took this team.

But next year when we have had a year of growing together and getting chemistry, I look for us to get the 1st seed and have alot of wins. I think LeBron has a good chance of getting MVP next year.

A big reason we are not 1st in the East is because Lebron underachieved (for whatever reason, could very well be injury), then needed 2 weeks off. You can't have that kind of portion of the season be of that quality, and win MVP in my opinion.

Both Curry and Harden have stepped up for the full year so far. Overall, they are having better seasons than Lebron. They are not better players, but better seasons. And MVP is for one season.

I disagree. This team was going to need time to gel and figure it out no matter what. It's inevitable. It is their first year together.

Not sure about that at all. LeBron will be another year older and the team surrounding him will be even better and more experienced. Both of those things will work against him.

Frankly, now that LeBron is at the stage of his career where he needs regular rest and games off in order to be at his most effective, I don't see him winning another MVP award ever again.

Curry. He's the best player at his position in the league. He's the best player on the best team in the league. And, statistically, he's been every bit as good as Harden and better than LeBron. If we are going to give it to the guy who has had the best statistical season, then it should be Davis, not LeBron.
