Ridnour not interesed in extension

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Keep Ridnour away from this team...

Can't play D and hit the 3.. :thumbdown

If we got Joe Johnson we would have been hoising a trophy in June. Instead, we're stuck with From the Fingers to the Toes Hughes... I tried to believe that it was a good move, but he turned out to only be a pretender defender. He's too weak to guard the guys that he should be: the Vince Carters and Paul Pierces. We need complements to LeBron, not sidekicks. Never got an outside threat in the starting lineup... JJ would have complemented LBJ with his shooting and scoring. But he was way beyond our reach and would have been near impossible to obtain. And in the end, it was very clear that JJ thought of himself as the #1 option on a team (why the hell else would he go to the Hawks)... something that we would not be able to offer.

Thing is, we tried to solve both problems at once. It sounded so good at first.. Hughes defending the perimeter and taking the scoring load off LBJ, while also running the offense by sharing the ball handling duties with Snow... but now we know (and were speculating at first) that it doesn't work without someone capable of shooting from the outside. No one believes me, but the team would have been much better with Damon Jones starting. Along with any G's that can hit an open three.

Back to the original thread though.

Luke Ridnour:

Career
33.7% 3pt, 137/407

On a team that boasted its 3 point shooting.

2004-5
37.6%, 67/178

If he can maintain that at 300 shots and 120 makes, then he is certainly an option. Only on the cheap though.

Ira Newble + 2nd rounder.
Damon Jones + 2nd rounder.

They also need cash. Might as well give it to them.

That's why you aren't a GM. Can you imagine what you'd be saying right now if we'd have lost that gamble?

As opposed to spending 12 million on a guy who played 40ish games?

I would rather have the cavs taken the ball to the hoop everyway. then def would play for it and leave the three open.

Hughes for 40 games at $12 million or
Ira Newble as a starter for 82 games at $4 million

When healthy, Hughes produces more in one game than Newble does all season. I could only imagine the horror of going in with a Snow/Newble starting backcourt. They might as well leave Snow and Newble on one end of the floor and not even make them run to the opponent's basket.

Joe Johnson was not available. That whole thing developed late into the offseason signing period and as someone mentioned, look at what Atlanta gave up to get him. We did not have the picks or young talent to send.

I will agree that Johnson would be a great fit, it's just that it wasn't as viable an option as some people think.

Nothing is guaranteed (well except their contracts) and Ferry had to make a move. If Hughes has another off year, I'll jump on the poor decision bandwagon. However, we went to the 2nd round with basically no contribution from Hughes. Imagine if he even comes close to his 04/05 season of 22/7/7 and plays for 70 games. I'll try to be optimistic when it comes to Hughes but this is his season to prove that he deserved the contract. After this season, if he doesn't prove his worth, all bets are off.

If Ridnour is available next offseason and we sign him for the MLE, I will be happy. A good young pg that is getting better.

You mean 22/6/5? I don't think he'll make those numbers here unless we actually get an offensive system, specifically one that caters to his skills.

He could put up those type of numbers in the Wheelchair league after he breaks something and misses 30 games again.

I think the argument here is that Larry Hughes is a better option for this team than nothing i.e. Ira Newble.

Let's agree on that.
