If we got Joe Johnson we would have been hoising a trophy in June. Instead, we're stuck with From the Fingers to the Toes Hughes... I tried to believe that it was a good move, but he turned out to only be a pretender defender. He's too weak to guard the guys that he should be: the Vince Carters and Paul Pierces. We need complements to LeBron, not sidekicks. Never got an outside threat in the starting lineup... JJ would have complemented LBJ with his shooting and scoring. But he was way beyond our reach and would have been near impossible to obtain. And in the end, it was very clear that JJ thought of himself as the #1 option on a team (why the hell else would he go to the Hawks)... something that we would not be able to offer.
Thing is, we tried to solve both problems at once. It sounded so good at first.. Hughes defending the perimeter and taking the scoring load off LBJ, while also running the offense by sharing the ball handling duties with Snow... but now we know (and were speculating at first) that it doesn't work without someone capable of shooting from the outside. No one believes me, but the team would have been much better with Damon Jones starting. Along with any G's that can hit an open three.
Back to the original thread though.
Luke Ridnour:
Career
33.7% 3pt, 137/407
On a team that boasted its 3 point shooting.
2004-5
37.6%, 67/178
If he can maintain that at 300 shots and 120 makes, then he is certainly an option. Only on the cheap though.
Ira Newble + 2nd rounder.
Damon Jones + 2nd rounder.
They also need cash. Might as well give it to them.
