Re: Shaw withdrew name, Cavs now poised to get Scott

I truly believe Shaw withdrew. It was gonna be a done deal. Phil is retiring I guess.

Re: Shaw withdrew name, Cavs now poised to get Scott

Come on , Rookies. Shaw withdrawing his name from consideration is CODE for the Cavs having told him that they are going with Scott. This "withdraw" allows Shaw to save face. Simple as that.

Great Point!

Re: Shaw withdrew name, Cavs now poised to get Scott

This is going to be spun a variety of ways until we hear the real story..

Some will say Shaw backing out means LeBron is leaving..

Some will say Shaw backing out means he will get the LA job..

Some will say Scott coming means LeBron is staying..

Some will say Cavs settled on Scott after wanting Shaw..

Whatever the case may be, be prepared to hear the spin stories all over the place...

Re: Shaw withdrew name, Cavs now poised to get Scott

1 thing i've learnd about the Cavs is don't assume anything until the Cavs issue an official statement.

Re: Shaw withdrew name, Cavs now poised to get Scott

Shaw withdrawing does not automatically mean Phil is gone.

It's likely but it's not the only possible scenario.

Re: Shaw withdrew name, Cavs now poised to get Scott

From Broussard's updated ESPN article:

Sources: Cavs in negotiations with Scott
By Chris Broussard
ESPN The Magazine

The Cleveland have entered into negotiations with former New Orleans Hornets coach Byron Scott to make him Cleveland's next head coach, according to league sources.

The other frontrunner, Lakers assistant coach Brian Shaw, returned to Los Angeles on Wednesday without an offer from the Cavaliers following two days of interviews for the job of replacing 2008-09 NBA Coach of the Year Mike Brown as the head coach, according to Shaw's agent Jerome Stanley.

Stanley said that nothing had changed in his client's job search from Tuesday to Wednesday when reached over the phone late Wednesday afternoon.

Re: Shaw withdrew name, Cavs now poised to get Scott

I'm glad. The triangle is nothing more than a glorified gimmick. Phil Jackson has always had Hall of Fame talent on his team and those types of players can make any set look good. If Lebron re-signs then he doesn't need to waste a year or two of his contract on learning the triangle. I think anyone would be better than Mike Brown at this point.

Re: Shaw withdrew name, Cavs now poised to get Scott

samickFanHouse

Shaw & his agent were under the impression the job was theirs, but it appears Cavs were going to string them & Scott along in negotiations.

interesting!!!

Re: Shaw withdrew name, Cavs now poised to get Scott

in 10 years i will love to hear what actually happened over the last 36 hours. cavs bring in both guys. agent for shaw says they are in contract negotiations with shaw. scott congrats shaw on the job. 24 hours later shaw withdraws name and cavs go after scott, who wanted another coaching positions.....

WTF, its like days of our lives but with a shittier plot

2 things better not happen here at this point:

A) Cavs are in contract negotitations, but Chris Grant is not making offer.

B) Kelvin Sampson's name coming up as the surprise final candidate.

Re: Shaw withdrew name, Cavs now poised to get Scott

Never really liked scott and never really got the hype of him in the first place....He was once a player and made his team better for a yrs and then declined, but so what...Also he isnt defensive minded which isnt good if we want to compete

The only only way i may like the idea is if he comes with some top assistant coaches

Re: Shaw withdrew name, Cavs now poised to get Scott

I haven't read the last few pages, so can someone please explain to me is Shaw officially out of the race (like he released a statement or email) or are Btoussard and Windy just saying Scott deal is likely?

Re: Shaw withdrew name, Cavs now poised to get Scott

Shaw backing out because of Shaq s&t is ludicrous if you think about. He would've coached a lbj less cavs but no Shaq is the lasy straw? Seriously guys?

Shaq is already a FA not expected back.

and so on...

People are gripping hard for excuses

I think Shaw "backed out" out because he was being used. Scott was our #1 all along

Re: Shaw withdrew name, Cavs now poised to get Scott

Think Scott was #1 ever since Izzo and Shaw was simply a decoy to get Scott to committ and lower his demands?
