Re: Windy: Offer to Shaw or Scott could come soon

Oh yeah, I've heard conflicting reports about the golf thing. I thought that was with the Hornets though?

Eh, there's definitely no home run candidate. I'm more turn off by how he's run out of town by his last two jobs. Scott definitely can get results, and pretty good results quick. He seems wear out his welcome fast. Not too many players have a lot of love for him when he leaves too. I don't like that part at all.

Re: Windy: Offer to Shaw or Scott could come soon

Good news from the Scott front, but I still prefer Shaw.

Re: Windy: Offer to Shaw or Scott could come soon

Nice of Scott to say those things. Maybe I'm just jaded over the Izzo thing but almost sounds too anxious

Re: Windy: Offer to Shaw or Scott could come soon

I'm almost to the point I don't care who the coach is, as long as we have one by July 1st.

Re: Windy: Offer to Shaw or Scott could come soon

As headmaster of the Please God Do Not Hire Byron Scott, allow me:

Byron Scott's career winning % is under .500

Everywhere he has gone, his players stopped playing for him within 5 years.

His offense is non-existent and his pace is slow and plodding. He has been blessed with Kidd and Paul.

He is the worst game adjuster in the NBA, even worse than Brown. It's been well reported that Scott does not watch game film.

And in case you want to know why I fully endorse Brian Shaw:

He runs the triangle. He has been coaching it for a while and knows the ins and outs of the triangle.

He is a former player. Someone that LeBron could respect, unlike Mike Brown.

He has been under the best coach in modern NBA history. Not much of a pedigree question about him.

That is the most biased opinion I have ever seen.

Allow me to even it out.

Shaw is a rookie head coach. Byron Scott has experience and was actually well liked by Cp3.

Shaw is a former player which LeBron will like.....but so is Byron Scott.

The triangle actually takes a few years to learn to run effective enough to produce big time results. At this point, we don't have time for that and probably not the right personnel.

Can Brian Shaw coach defense? I don't think they know what defense is in LA. Defense will always be our focus and our idenity. That is what wins games.

Re: Windy: Offer to Shaw or Scott could come soon

Holy shit, looks like things are finally swinging to a point where it's now up to the Cavs to decide what they want...

The next few days should be very interesting in regards to what goes on with the coaching situation.

Consider me on "Team Byron" who would like to express at least a certain level of intrigue as far as "Team Shaw" goes.

I have a lot more thoughts on this, mainly a lot of difficult/impossible questions...don't have time to lay it out right now but expect a wall of text from me later on this :chuckles:

phil jackson won in his second year with chicago (three-peat after losing to a very good detroit team in the conference finals in his first year) and in his first year with the lakers (also a three-peat)

Did you watch the Finals? You don't think LA knows what defense is? SMH, come on man you're better than that.

It's still the off season, you can get pieces for the triangle.

Shaw and Scott are both players, that is true. But there was so much crap being spread that it was the reason people wanted Scott. Well, Shaw is a former player with rings.

Byron Scott was well liked by CP3. The rest of the team quit on him. It's also worth noting that Jason Kidd hates Byron Scott as well. On the other hand, one of the biggest coach destroyers in NBA history, Shaq, loves Brian Shaw.

And of course I'm biased, I hate Byron Scott. He is not a good fit for this team, or any team really.

Brian Shaw begins coaching interview with Cavaliers; sources say team wants to name a coach by Thursday

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cavaliers are in the homestretch of their coaching search. At least, they hope so.

After being granted permission last week and then setting up the plans over the weekend, the Cavs welcomed Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Brian Shaw to town for what is expected to be a two-day interview on Monday. According to a source, Shaw is planned to be the final candidate to interview in person.

Sources also indicate the Cavs want to have a coach hired by Thursday, when LeBron James will officially enter free agency.

The Cavs have held in-person interviews with a handful of candidates during their month-long search -- including Tom Izzo, who turned the job down, and Byron Scott. The fact that the Cavs have continued their search illustrates the care in which they are taking in the process.

Although Shaw is the last person in, it doesn't necessarily mean he's emerged as the top candidate. There is no doubt the team is intrigued by Shaw and have already done a fair amount of background research before setting up his visit.

But with no previous head coaching experience at any level, Shaw's interview with Cavs General Manager Chris Grant and owner Dan Gilbert will likely hold extra importance.

Especially interesting to the front office will likely be Shaw's views on how the complex triangle offense, which Shaw learned playing for and then coaching with Phil Jackson over the last decade, might work for the Cavs and James. Or how it might not.

However, there's another Jackson element in play. The Lakers' legend is considering retirement and may not give the team an answer until the end of the week. If Jackson steps down, Shaw will be an immediate candidate to take over. So will Scott, who the Cavs have spoken with in depth on at least three occasions.

Balancing the potential of coaching the two-time defending champs or taking over the Cavs' position may become a tough choice for Scott and Shaw. It could mean the Cavs still won't be able to move at their desired timetable.

In an interview with Yahoo! Sports on Monday, Scott said he's interested in the Cavs job and not waiting on Jackson or James.

"I’m not sitting and waiting on Phil Jackson," Scott told Yahoo. "That ain’t me. I’m not waiting on anybody. I would coach there without LeBron. But they got a good shot at getting him back."

Phil Jackson is also the greatest coach to ever coach in the NBA. The truth is, the triangle is very hard to teach, and takes a long time to master. Just because the greatest coach of all time had early success with it, doesn't mean Shaw will.

Re: Windy: Offer to Shaw or Scott could come soon

It will take at least 2 years to implement the triangle in Cleveland, be realistic people.

Phil Jackson has had the excellent fortune of having some of the greatest basketball players in NBA history on his roster in both Chicago and LA. Dont get me wrong, I think he is a great coach but I would not put him as the best in history based on his ring count as I think Kobe. Shaq, Pippen, Jordan, etc had a lot to do with his success.

I'd rather have a system I know will, at least eventually, work rather than whatever the hell Scott brings to the table.

Re: Windy: Offer to Shaw or Scott could come soon

Was there anything ever released about what Jason Kidd and CP3 had to say to our organization about Byron as a coach?
