Shurmur and Heckert fired (ESPN)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I can say I have never watched a Cuse game. What kinds of schemes/styles was Maronne running?

He was the New Orleans OC from 06-08.

So basically, the Saints offensive philosophy.

50 passes a game then? Fantastic.

I know we've moved on from the Shurmur talk, but I just wanted to say that I know someone from work that is also an intern at WKNR. He said that Shurmur's office was all packed up on Friday. They really got him out of there quick.

Well Heckert said in an interview yesterday Haslam and Banner didnt make the decision until a week ago

Out of everybody we heard

1) Saban
2) Gruden
3) Kelly
4) O'Brien
5) Koetter
6) Kromer
7) Horton
8) Marrone

I dont know if i'm missing anyone

Arians and Mike Zimmer? Grossi said on WKNR he would have been brought in this weekend if they were had a bye.

Another name you're missing McDaniels.

Only in Cleveland;

do you fire a guy who's considered to be the one of the best at what he does, only to look for a new one.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. But it's politics as usual..

Best? He was above average, but not close to the best.

Isn't having only 5 pretty busted?

Well Arians would be in my top 5 bumping out Koetter. Zimmer i dont know enough about, and McDaniels isnt coaching he already made that clear

A little side note have any of Bill Belichick's coaches under him ever worked out? By working out, I mean winning a Superbowl or taking a team and making them consistent contenders.

Let's see
Crennel: No
McDaniels: No
Mangini: No
Saban: No
Schwartz: No
Groh: No

This makes me not want Saban, McDaniels or Bill O'Brien.

Ozzie is the only success I can think of and he's front office.

Not sure if posted:
Browns owner Jimmy Haslam is ready to spend big and is willing to give the next head coach "final say" over player personnel decisions. That is exactly what Kelly has reportedly been seeking if he makes the jump from the college ranks to the NFL. This would seem to be bad news for Brandon Weeden's future in Cleveland as he doesn't seem to fit Kelly's mold for an athletic quarterback. The Browns roster is also viewed as one of the best - if not the best - among the teams with vacancies at the top.

Hey JMac, any rumblings on 49ers OC Greg Roman being a potential candidate?

Howard Eskin tweeted out yesterday that he's on the Eagles list. Nothing on the Browns yet.

Holmgren is willing to listen to head coaching offers :chuckles:

For b00bie and the crowd who thinks Weeden and Kelly would work, this is from Tony Grossi this morning:

Which Browns coaching candidate would most certainly spell the end of QB Brandon Weeden in Cleveland?

The one who's been reported as the favorite by the national football media -- Chip Kelly of Oregon. Kelly's revved-up zone read option offense requires a mobile, RG3-like quarterback. Actually, it requires two such QBs because the offense puts the trigger man in harm's way so often. Weeden has a big arm and a big body, but he would not be adept at Kelly's pure offensive system. When asked if his skills are compatible with Kelly's preferences, Weeden flatly stated, "I can't run the zone read."

So is Chip Kelly bringing Mike Vick to Cleveland if he comes? Is that what we're all foreshadowing here? How much does Vick have left in the tank? Who is his predecessor (that 2nd quarter back mentioned?).

If Chip Kelly comes here, I'd say let's draft Tajh Boyd and develop him into an NFL QB
