The Brian Hoyer thread...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Take a breath. I don't think anyone is going to argue Hoyer didn't play an excellent game, though he did need to execute late and didn't.

Yes, Hoyer needed to execute when called upon late, but I'd easily argue that the playcalling blew on those last 2 possessions, especially when our running game was pretty damn good to the outside the entire game.

He's the quarterback and ultimately it's his job to lead the team to victory. If he didn't like the play call then he should have called an audible.

They ran on first and second down during the final drive, I thought the playcalling was fine, especially on that final drive.

Receiver was open, he was missed on 3rd and 7.

Needed to kill some clock there, the execution failed them when it mattered most.

I was hoping they'd throw on first or second down.

If they were the Seahawks and I firmly believed they'd get the first down inside their own 10 even with the defense loading up, I'd have wanted them to run twice.

As it was, they ran it right into the pile twice and had already lost momentum by that point anyways. As soon as they had to punt that ball, you knew the game was over.

Just wanted to see them leave it all on the field knowing they had to buck the odds at that point.

Their focus should have been on getting a first down, first and running out the clock second. It was backwards and with two timeouts, the two minute warning and bad field position for the Browns, you could see it coming. I like my chances of Hoyer picking up a first down throwing 3 times over running twice and passing once with 8 men in the box.

Playcalling wasn't terrible, the plays were just poorly executed. Crowell after that first down play was pretty upset with himself. Seems it was designed for him to cut back inside where the hole was, he just went outside too far. At least seemed he could have picked up a good 6 or 7 on that play instead of a minimal game.

And I like the 3rd down call, not the results. Coaches were going for the first instead of just running then punting after the 2 minute warning.

I'm more upset with Haden giving up yet another big play.

Hoyer had a great game all things considered. He never seemed rattled. Only negative you could really come up with in this game is his short passes needed some touch on them. Hoyer's the dang "Wizard of Oz" right now with all the munchkins running around for his receivers.

97.5 QB Rating through 3 games, have been in every game, and constructed an unreal comeback (and almost win) on the road at Pitt..

If our D would've been at least half as good as advertised and our kicking unit didn't have their heads up their asses, we're 3-0 right now.. or at the very least 2-1.

Like it or not, Hoyer has not been the least bit responsible for us being 1-2 instead.
Couldn't agree more with this..

I'm disappointed in the defense more than anything. Really thought they were going to get that last stop.

From where I was sitting it looked like he fell because he had to slow down and wait for the ball to come to him. If that's a well thrown deep ball he catches it in stride and waltzes into the end zone instead of having to adjust and come back to it. I didn't see a replay so maybe that's wrong, but that's what it looked like to me.

Watch the replay and I think your opinion will change. It looked like he misjudged it and slowed down too much, then had to jump forward to make the catch..that's why he fell. If he hadnt slowed down so much he would have caught it easily and never looked back.

The defense was a dumpster fire. The 12 or 13 penalties were disastrous. The defense looked like they were in their first preseason game.

Losing with Hoyer playing well is one of the worst things that could happen to this team

Going to need an explanation on this.

If you're going to lose, might as well do it by getting Manziel reps. No point in doing it with a veteran journeyman QB who obviously isn't the future.

Why? It's not like we're losing by double digits. Our games have been decided by a total of 7 points. There's no need to rush Manziel here. Plus our schedule looks to a cake walk the first 5 weeks out of the bye.
