Unfortunately, no.I forget, can you trade a player along with an exception?
Just say no to Josh Smith. Stay strong with the No Knuckleheads Policy.
Im cool with having just one (J.R). Adding too many is how teams go under (see LAC).Just say no to Josh Smith. Stay strong with the No Knuckleheads Policy.
Smith says hello!
I love JR. I always loved his game, but he always appeared distracted and his issues got the best of him. While I think he is over all of that and focused, part of me thinks he will either revert to his old ways or just straight up beef with Josh Smith. Not worth the risk imo.I figured someone would go with JR. Love the pic w Blatt seething back there, but I think the comparison is lazy. JR has largely changed his ways and had a previous relationship with LeBron. He was also a throw in for Shump. So if josh smith also gets us a starter in a trade, then the Policy will be revisited.
If you think JR is indeed a knucklehead, then we've met our quota. I think pipe's past overshadows his talent sometimes. It's a "here we go again" feeling, and I have had it too. But didn't he tie or break several records last year? This was supposed to be a throw in, mind you, and I doubt we looked to acquire him alone.

I feel ya. JR changed his way b/c Lebron and Blatt provided a structure that was obviously lacking in NY. Smith's fondness for Blatt has only made the situation that much better. Before coming to Cleveland, Smith was THE knucklehead of the NBA, according to the media. It amazes me how quickly people write off the fact he won 6th man of the year a mere three years ago.
LBJ is the great equalizer when acquiring players with a spotty past. Not sure what his relationship is to Josh Smith (didn't they play together in the USA qualifiers in 08 or 12?) With that said, the only hole i see on this team is more versatile athletic. Jefferson's been great in his limited role but if we had to expand upon that in the playoffs due to unforeseen circumstances *cough injuries cough*, i'd be worried. Josh Smith seems like a good fit personnel-wise. Team wise? That would depend on LBJ and Blatt.
I just can't get behind Josh's on-court game on offense. Say he hits a jumper, then we find him in the corner for a 3. Next time down, we are swinging the ball around the perimeter. Is Josh passing it? I just don't see it.
A buddy of mine lives in NYC and said that JR would fly down to Miami the night before a HOME DAY GAME to party and then fly back. Now it's likely hyperbole but that's a little cray. So he deserved a bit of that, but that was then and this is now.
I see us as a championship caliber team when healthy (prob need 15-20 games with the major pieces playing together). We are in the top 3 somewhere as constructed. I just don't see this dude coming in and helping whatsoever, but don't get me wrong, if the Policy is broken, I will still embrace him with open arms.
Since we're just pinning guesses on the donkey, my 2 cents:
Capt. America is not super useful (surprise) and slow shooting guards don't draw a premium, but Sixers are pretty much an open audition, so let's assume you unload Harris to 76ers to play alongside McConnell (cue jokes) for one of their gazillion 2nd round picks/extreme lottery tickets.
You're probably not going to get anyone real important or noteworthy unless it's a bad contract and those you'll likely have to compete for, esp. given the competition in both conferences.
However you could probably find a young athletic guy ala Jared Cunningham that would fit into the Mike Miller slot. The team doesn't need scoring or even a whole lotta off. skill (can you credibly stand in the corner and shoot 3s?) but an athletic 3 seems almost a must given Shump/JR's varied issues and the increasing possibility that Love will play the 5 with LeBron at the 4. Not sure how many fit that, but I'm thinking a younger less off. skilled version of Grizzlies' Matt Barnes.
EDIT Looking at
http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/rpm/_/sort/DRPM/position/5
Kyle Singler would be an interesting add, he's looked surprisingly good at DRPM but in lmtd mpg. His offense has been AWOL all season
Alonzo Gee would be another possibility, but scores like a broken pinball machine.
If there is any way you can get Dallas' Jeremy Evans you do it. Some way to pry away Sam Dekker from Houston?
Are there more offensively-challenged players than Barnes?but I'm thinking a younger less off. skilled version of Grizzlies' Matt Barnes.
