The incredibly awesome Mike Bibby thread !!!

Re: BW: Cavs almost got Bibby today

I'm pretty sure a decent veteran big man could be picked up in that case. Granted, it wouldn't give the team the two-headed monster of Andy and Drew, but it would probably be only for a year, even less. I think that would certainly be worth it, if a gaping hole can be filled elsewhere on the roster.

Re: BW: Cavs almost got Bibby today

See my sig. Dammit!!!! I am still happy to hear things are moving along. If the Spurs do not want to play, it is easy enough to find another team. Both GMs can access their "favors" to get that done.

Losing the upper hand in the AV negotiations. Fegan can essentially hog-tie us if this goes down.

Keep working Danny.

Re: BW: Cavs almost got Bibby today

How about this:

* Resign AV and Pavs
* Trade Gooden, Damon, Wesley for Bibby
* Sign Blatche with the MLE
* Sign Mutombo or Dale Davis with the BAE

PG Bibby, Gibson, Snow
SG Hughes, Brown, Newble
SF James, Sasha, Rice
PF AV, Blatche, Marshall
C Z, Mutombo/Davis, Dwayne Jones

This time, Bibby trade looks likely

So the Mike Bibby to Cleveland trade talk is back in full force, and my gut is telling me for the moment that this deal eventually gets done.

For starters, the recent message from Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie that he's done looking to trade Ron Artest turns all attention to Bibby. And while stranger things have happened, there are very few people within and around this team who believe the Artest-Bibby will continue.

Yet while the Kings-Cavs trade chatter at Las Vegas summer league was discreet, there was nothing more noticeable than the lovefest surrounding Cavs forward Drew Gooden taking place during the Kings game. The Maloofs and Kings team president John Thomas all smiled and spoke with Gooden, who was equally affable.

You almost expected the whole group to walk across the way to the nearest conference room to announce their new player. But if, in fact, Gooden is headed for Sacramento, the questions surrounding Kenny Thomas and Shareef Abdur-Rahim only intensify.

Both players are well into their careers but far from ready to accept a "happy-to-be-here" attitude. They both wanted to play and didn't like sharing time before the Gooden factor, so a deal there seems all the more likely.

I am not sold on Bibby, I would love to have him here but as MYoung said, he is in his thirties and he has been on a decline the last two years.

His shot hasnt been that great, but again, that may be because of the pressure of him to do more on the offensive end because of the lack of talent.

Bibby just turned 29 a few weeks ago.

He injured his hand in training camp last year and was wearing a brace on his hand the first half of the season...that was a big factor in his shooting struggles. His shot improved as the season went on and the injury healed -

Nov. - 36.1% FG and 29.3% 3PT%
Dec. - 38.1% FG and 22.7% 3PT%
Jan. - 41.8% FG and 35.0% 3PT%
Feb. - 42.7% FG and 40.0% 3PT%
Mar. - 42.3% FG and 42.0% 3PT%
Apr. - 42.1% FG and 44.6% 3PT%

Preparing us for the inevitable deal here Max?

Re: BW: Cavs almost got Bibby today

I really hope this goes down, after obliviously a let down at draft time. If we end up with Michael Bibby, Ferry should all be sent a sorry card by us. Patience would definitely have paid off.

I honestly dont mind giving up both Sash and drew, although I would obviously want to give up the least amount as possible. I just feel Brown will be poised to start taking a lot of the shooting guard minutes while sasha is really best fit at the small forward spot.

We could easily obtain a backup small forward that would do what we need from him i.e play tough defense and be able to hit open shots.

Bibby addresses so many needs on our team. We have been clamoring for a top tier point guard ever since the Lebron era began. He is also a guy that can consistently put up the scoring numbers we need as he is very good at playing really anywhere on the floor.

Someone that shoots and yes passes as well as bibby would allow anderson to come in and start and just play willy nilly(yes I just said willy nilly!).

Obviously with the departure of Drew, it would be very important for us to find another young big. Blatche is a very popular name around here and I wouldnt mind at all throwing some money at the kid and forcing Washington to make a tough decision!

Re: BW: Cavs almost got Bibby today

I wouldn't worry at all about Michaels jumpshot. That has always been the staple of his game and why he has always been regarded very highly. I live in sac and I watched his struggles with the injury. If he came to Cleveland, it honestly wouldn't worry me at all.

The guy is as pure as they come, he can put major points on the board in a hurry if he is getting quality looks.

Re: BW: Cavs almost got Bibby today

Moving Drew first doesn't give Fegan leverage. It actually removes any rationale Andy may have had for looking elsewhere, because it hands him the starting spot next to Z. It encourages him to sign a long-term contract with the Cavs and not just accept a qualifying offer. A 3yr offer like Drew's would allow him to showcase his talents and potentially earn a bigger payday, or he can go for a longer term offer and financial stability.

Yes, we need to re-sign Andy, but he's restricted. He's not going anywhere and likely never was. If we had forced him to accept less because we kept telling him we're not overpaying for a starter, and then turned around and signed Bibby and announced Andy was our guy all along ... how do you think that makes him feel about the organization?

As I've been saying... it's a lot easier to sign free-agents when you can promise them a starting spot and solid minutes.

You are absolutely correct jon, the ball is in our court now that Memphis has found their big man and the bucks have their hands tied down with the yi situation. With the starting spot open and no potential big money bidders, we are willing and able to match anything thrown his way.

Re: BW: Cavs almost got Bibby today

Please go down deal. This would be a deal where both parties are happy, as well as the players. Although Drew may not like to leave the friendships he ahs made in Cleveland, he gets to go home. Bibby gets to leave a stressful environment for one of togetherness.

Please happen. But after AV signs.

Fegan will have another chip. AV will get more open looks and pick and rolls to the hoop. Bibby is a better passer than Sasha. Boobie is improving as well with that play, as evidenced by his ability to break down an opponent and get to the rim. Defenses will have to play him, opening up the pick and roll play. This will drive up AVs price. With Gooden gone, does anyone have a problem with a 5 year, 40 million dollar deal?

Just my opinion, but yeah, i think it's inevitable.

I see no reason to give him that much. We have the leverage.

Re: BW: Cavs almost got Bibby today

inevitable makes it sound like it's a fatal illness or having to own up to your mistake in front of your boss.

this is actually a good thing, no?
