29k tonight. Awesome to see. Hopefully both the team and attendance stay above average.

29k and a loss. I would trade any of your wins in exchange for one tonight.

Tame crowd tonight. Hard to get into the game with a mild crowd and lack of run support. Still nice to get down to the Jake though..

Come on....29k show up for the game last night and now we're going to complain that the crowd was tame? I actually think some of the players got stage fright. They're not used to having more that 8k watching.

Fans finally come out... Tribe lays a turd.

I hate saying that a 2-3 game stretch in May are 'must wins' but with fans there, they really need to take the series.

The Indians scored 2 in the second and got blanked for the last 7 innings. What was there to be excited about?

If the fans aren't going to keep coming out because they lose one game, then there's no hope anyhow. I'm not high on our fan base, but I don't think they are that short-sighted either.

Or else we'll likely see bad attendance numbers again.

The media went full guilt trip on CLE last week about attendance. If the team shots the bed, even for one series, I could see this big walk up crowds die off rather quickly.

Once they dip back under .500, I think people will be too disappointed and bored to care.

Chris Perez Rips Cleveland Fans, Says Free Agents Don’t Want To Sign Because Of Lack Of Support
May 19, 2012 By Brendan 1 Comment

As is his wont, Chris Perez shot off in the locker room after the Indians 2-0 win over the Marlins on Saturday. Only this time he wasn’t getting into tussles on Twitter or with the opponents. Perez ripped the Cleveland fans, saying they don’t show up and the lack of support has hurt the organization’s pursuit of free agents. He specifically cited the club’s attempt to sign Carlos Beltran this offseason, saying the low attendance and support were a factor in Beltran choosing the Cardinals over the Tribe.

The Elyria Chronicle-Telegram’s Chris Assenheimer tweeted Perez’s comments from the clubhouse after the game:
Perez rips fans for not showing up and for booing him during his last outing two days ago against Mariners.

He went into specifics, and as noted above, said the lack of support hurts the club in free agency:
Perez says one of the reasons free agents don’t want to sign with Cleveland is because of lack of fan support.

Perez is a pretty prideful, if not stupid, guy so it will be interesting to see where he goes from here and if there’s any attempt to walk this back.

Jesus Christ.

I agree he is right, but that's the kind of shit you keep inside or limited to the clubhouse. That is NOT smart to say to the media.

Agreed on that. There's nothing really to gain by saying it. I think it does show us that the lack of support really has an impact on these guys. Let's hope we keep seeing crowds like today's and yesterday's.
