The Walking Dead

Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

I actually like the periphery stories. I mean...if you don't want them to drag it out, then the show can only last so long. I've been pretty satisfied so far. I do wonder how long the concept can go on. I'm actually pretty excited about all the possible going's-on at Herschel's. Something strange about the fact there's literally no protection around the house besides isolation and the fact that the area has remained isolated so long. Creepy.

I agree that you need periphery stories. I guess it's just the ones happening right now are lame. No faster way to lose my attention than to have Andrea spat with the old man again. I'll wait and see with the little kid being shot and what goes on at the Texas Chainsaw farmhouse before I draw any final conclusions, but it needs to pick up. I hate when shows (Lost is a great example) that sidetrack from the story to pump out more episodes and waste time.

Just so you know, this "side story" is part of the comic series. The son getting shot, the farm, Hershel and his family, Otis... all in the comics. The little school adventure isn't. So, we'll see where that goes.

Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

All I know is the kid better die and become a zombie or I'm gonna quit watching the show. The ONLY thing saving this series is the top-notch FX. The acting is on subpar to Days of Our Lives, the fake southern accents are fucko-annoying, and the drama is contrived. Starting to hate it more each episode. When does Breaking Bad come back on. Sigh.

Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

Fake accents of any kind are always annoying. I agree with that.

I've been satisfied with the season so far. Honestly, I haven't truly blown away by more than two parts of the show. The first was season 1 when he initially woke up in the hospital. The whole scene in the hospital was absolutely incredible. The other part was at the CDC when they explained the nature of the zombies and how they operate.

Outside of that, I think the show has been as intense as any show I've watched and around an 8.5/10. Those moments were 12/10.

I still think it's a very good show, but I could see why some are disappointed to far with this season.

Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

I thought this show was annoying from the get go (except for the pilot). It just has the cheap TV show feel to it. The zombies are pretty lame for the most part. There's no atmosphere, the acting sucks, the plot lines are boring.

All in all, it just sucks.

Oh and how the hell can you enjoy a show when there's a commercial interruption every 3 fucking minutes. Fuck this show. It's made for people who are already zombies.

I'm thinking you're watching the wrong show...

Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

Yeah JSS...you can't be describing the show we're all watching.

At least in the regard that the zombies and the rest of the FX for that matter are incredible. And the show completely relies on atmosphere, which is what has made the show an incredible success. And commercial interruptions...I barely notice them. And it seems like there's actually significantly less than most other shows.

I could see someone disliking the plot lines and the acting definitely leaves something to be desired at times. Opinions are opinions, but you have the exact opposite view of even the people I know that dislike it.

Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

I love this show. I enjoyed the first season, but I watched it without commercial breaks on my DVR. I've been watching the second season live and it seems that the commercials really do fuck up the viewing experience. All in all the first 2 episodes have left a lot to be desired compared to the first season, but I expect the next episode to pick up in action since Shane and the fat guy are trapped at the school, Carl is about to die, and hopefully they won't fucking walk around an empty forest for 15 minutes this time around. Episode 2 really just seemed like a transition episode that didn't really add anything to the story.

Still looking forward to Sunday night though

Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

Since you mention about the commercial breaks...maybe I'm wrong on this one. I watch on DVR which explains why I don't notice? Are there more?

Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

I have a basic question: How fast can the zombies move? I feel like at some parts they tend to chase people at a fast walking pace and then at the end of the most recent show it looked like a few of them were close to a full out sprint. Anyone read the comic and have knowledge on their 40 times?

Re: The Walking Dead Episode One (Pre-air)

I don't know for sure if they do actually have more, its more so with the placement of them that just disrupts any sort of momentum that the show has. A show is always better when it flows. Idk maybe i'm just impatient because the only show that I actually watch live is the Walking Dead. Others I watch on Netflix, or I record them and watch them at a later time.

I could understand why AMC runs a shitload of commercials though. They advertise the shit out the Walking dead basically 24/7. The first episode of season two broke records for basic cable so I can see why they're sucking all they can out of it. Good point. I never read the comic but the zombies when they were chasing Shane and the fat guy around the school seemed to be moving faster then they did in other episodes. Usually it looks like they are just staggering around.

I'm definitely looking a little too deep into this but in an episode last season a doctor explained that basically only the brain stem is active in a zombie. I wonder if that would prohibit a zombie from "running" like we think of it. At least they aren't like the 28 days later zombies who run at full sprint lol

They tend to shamble along. I don't think they are really suppose to sprint. I've read all 90 issues of the comic. The big thing you learn is that you have to watch out for them forming herds. That is when they are truly dangerous because of numbers. You'll notice even in the tv series that often people get in trouble because they are careless and get surprised like Amy. You always have to be on alert. Otherwise, in small numbers they are usually not too much of a problem.

The Walking Dead has a normal run time of 45 minutes. The other popular AMC shows, Breaking Bad and Mad Men, have a run time of about 47 minutes. So you are normally getting one more long commercial or two short ones when watching The Walking Dead.
