Trade Deadline Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm not too familiar with much of the guys on the block, but do the Indians have any chance to acquire a bat by the deadline?

If so, what players could they be looking at?

They'll need to prove they're worthy of a mid-season addition before they actually go get one.

They won't be in the market for rentals.

Yeah, getting a rental wouldn't be the best idea if the teams not for sure about being a contender.

But they are only 5 games back from the 2nd wildcard spot, and this pitching staff is very, very good.

I really feel this team is a bat or 2 away from being a legit threat. They definitely will need Santana to start stepping up, and also Brantley to get back to his usual form, but adding another solid offensive threat seems like the logical move to boost their chances.

The problem is the clustering of outfielders they can't really move.

Murphy and Raburn have been too good to DFA, they don't have any real opportunity to fit another bat in.

I think you nailed it with your third paragraph, Santana and Brantley need to step up.

Think that's the only chance they're going to have to improve the roster as is.

I think adding a bullpen arm with multiple years of team control would be a wise investment as well.

So, are the Indians buyers and sellers now with a 42-46 record at the All-Star break?

The Braves made the Diamondbacks give up their first rounder in last year's draft to take on Arroyo. I think we'd probably have to give up Kluber, Kipnis, and Lindor for Hart to bite on Swisher.

Losing a series to the A's who were 10+ under doesn't help.

If we go into the deadline close to 10 under then why not trade Raburn, Perez, Scrabble, Aviles, Murphy...

I wonder if someone like Roberto Perez has value. Really, really good defensive catcher and gets on base. team controlled for quite a bit.

I wouldn't be against trading Frazier if they could get a decent bat that would be around for 2+ years, either.

Won't trade Perez. They like him a lot and need him for this season as the backup catcher with Yan still coming back from his knee injury earlier this season. They have no other depth at the catcher position as we saw when Gomes went down and they had to bring up Brett Hayes. Perez is a very good backup catcher but not an every day starter

Perez has value. He has now value to this team, though, as a cheap backup plus defender C with potential to improve art the plate. Since this club depends on Gomes for a chunk of the offense they need a quality backup to be able to rest him. If Perez was some kind of top prospect I could see the enticement to deal him- but as is, he fits the team need pretty well and I think his best value is on this club.

If Aguilar is in the plans then I see why not make Perez expendable. A team that needs a catcher will give us something decent. Santana should be the DH/C. Jesus is working on an errorless season right now over at 1B. But if he can bring power then his defense is a bonus.

Aguilar is also 25 years old so its time to give him some regular ABs. If we slip then sell Raburn, Murphy at least. Murphy will net us a good arm.
