Trade Deadline Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Oh I completely disagree- jettisoning Braun saves the Brewers 96m in payroll over the next 5 years. I think they would easily consider taking 14m on for next year to free up 20m a year after 2016. Again, would free up that money just in time to extend Gomez.

If they're only potential partner were Cleveland, I would agree.

But I'm pretty sure they can go out on an open market and move Braun for a package that doesn't include either of those two bums as a salary exchange.

I would just like to remind everyone I was against Swisher and Bourn being signed.

I confess that I initially loved the Swisher signing. Didn't care much for Bourn.

I'll defend those signings as "process over results."

Swisher played in 145+ games in 7 straight seasons and averaged 2.7 WAR over that time. His talent was based in power and on-base percentage. Two things that age well. But it all went to hell

Bourn averaged 150 games and 51 stolen bases and 3.8 WAR over the 5 years before he signed. Hell - he had a 6.1 WAR and 42 stolen bases the year before he signed here!

The back-end of these deals was always going to be rough - but no one could've predicted they'd be so bad from the start.

Ok. I assume Los is Ramirez, because I could easily see the Brewers wanting a cost controlled 1B- they are currently running Adam Lind out there. Not exactly a long term solution.

Santana, Frazier, Cody Anderson and Sam Hentges (Anderson alone is not enough) for Carlos Gomez and that right handed Nick Hagadone you identified. ChrisA, time to climb out from under the reinforced desk you share with Griffin.

Los = Carlos (Santana)

No way the Indians give up all of that for Gomez.

Lind is only like 2.8 years older than Santana and performing near his three-year averages.....

I don't think the marginal lineup upgrade is worth giving up on two solid pitching prospects and a high ceiling, top 100, OF prospect (even though he hasn't quite lived up to expectations). Gomez is having a worse year offensively than Santana and even though he's coming off his best two seasons in the MLB, Gomez was, again, only marginally better than Santana over that same period of time.

I'm all for making a splash but I don't think Gomez is that guy to break the bank for. Further more, Gomez lacks any sort of plate discipline, which the Indians value greatly, and he can't hit lefties, which Santana has done extremely well against in the past, so we gain a RH bat but lose lineup flexibility.

I wonder if the Indians might have interest in Edwin Jackson once he clears waivers. They've been tied to him in the past and he's been decent out of the bullpen this year.

As for trades, I'd watch Pittsburgh, who just lost Jordy Mercer for awhile and might have interest in Ramirez or Chisenhall and San Diego, who may have interest in the same pair of players.

If there's a guy out there worth giving up a lot for, it's Yasiel Puig. I just don't believe he's really available.

What would you think the Indians would have to give up for Puig? I would imagine lots of pitching.

Did anyone think Cespedes was available? I keep reading how Puig is a pain in that clubhouse. He is Also OPSing under 800 and the Dodgers have a glut of OFers. Would rather try and snag Scott Van Slyke

Passing on anything involving Puig.

Definition of polarizing, not as good as the hype, the antithesis of anything Cleveland looks for in terms of clubhouse presence.

If a remember correctly Yoenis was known to be on the block.

Yoenis would be fantastic in the cleanup spot here since he'd have Kipnis, Brantley, and to a lesser extent, Lindor consistently on base in front of him.

Wonder what Detroit would be looking for.

Probally Frazier and one of our starting five not named Kluber. One of Anderson or Carassco might do with a medium level prospect.
