From Bucher:

---
As we enter the final days before the NBA trade deadline, the two most notable names expected to be moved are Josh Smith and Andrea Bargnani, according to league executives.

If Smith isn't moved by Thursday, said one source, "it won't be for a lack of trying." While a deal with the Spurs makes sense considering the familiarity between Hawks GM Danny Ferry and his former boss, R.C. Buford, it's hard to piece one together that addresses Atlanta's needs and bolsters the Spurs' run at another title. Stephen Jackson (expiring $10 million deal) and Kawhi Leonard (rookie contract) works under the cap and Smith would provide the athleticism San Antonio sorely needs, but he's not the on-the-ball defender that Kawhi is and can't space the floor the way Kawhi does, either.

As for Bargnani, it's simply a matter of both Andrea and the Raptors needing a fresh start without the other. The Bobcats' rumor makes sense from the standpoint that the franchise would be hard-pressed to land a talent of Bargnani's level on the free-agent market.

Re: 2012-2013 Trade Deadline (discussion)

Been hearing the Spurs are working the phone lines to get a third team involved in the talks with the Hawks.

Would love for them to acquire Josh Smith, they're the No.1 team I pick to beat the Heat in the finals, and with a player of Smith's caliber next to Duncan down-low, they have an even better chance.

Can't wait for Bargnani to teach our guys how to play defense.
Actually, Bargnani is a good 1 on 1 defender as he is able to use his length, strength, and athleticism to keep bigs in front of him. But he is such a horrid help defender - he's way too slow at recognizing rotations - and bad rebounder that he has a strong negative impact in the defensive half.

I hope he ends up somewhere other than Cleveland.

→ The Cavs have been offered players like Ben Gordon but have stuck to their guns about not trading picks or other real assets until after this season is over. They will take on money but only if the contracts acquired expire before the 2014/2015 season.

→ I've been told by several sources that although he would fit next to Tristan Thompson that the Cavs have not inquired about Andrea Bargnani for several reasons but first and foremost is his heinous contract.

→ The Cavs at first were hard at work trying to flip Speights but his play lately has some in the organization rethinking their position.

→ The Cavs are answering the phone but are not in any serious negotiations at this time but other teams know that the Cavs are willing to spend money and have the cap room and players needed to help facilitate trades. I still think the Cavs make another pretty serious move by the deadline.

I really hope the Cavs do something with Speights. He's going to cost just enough to put him out of our price range. I just don't see him as a long-term piece.

Re: Truth And Rumors 2/18

Take a look at every bad contract, and just assume the Cavs have been approached about acquiring said contract.

Re: Truth And Rumors 2/18

Could be a very boring Trade Deadline then.

Re: Truth And Rumors 2/18

Did you actually read the first post in this thread?

Yeah? Not in negotiations with anybody. Game over man, game over.

Re: Truth And Rumors 2/18

See, I stop reading once I hit a negative. You have to put the positives first.

Re: Truth And Rumors 2/18

I'll be completely shocked if the Cavs stay pat. I'm just surprised Walton's expiring contract hasn't been brought up much. He has been playing pretty well though in the 2nd unit which makes me believe we might not move him.

Expiring contracts are a hot commodity nowadays in the NBA and Grant could very easily in return receive a 1st round pick, preferably in the 14' draft.

Grant is a low key guy, most of his deals come straight out of left field. It's not the type of situation where a rumor pops up and the discussions have been going on for a week or so, it's more like you wake up the next morning and you say "WTF".. what just happened lol.
