Ohio State’s dramatic victory over Wisconsin on Saturday has already paid off with a recruiting commitment.

Wide receiver Michael Thomas, rated a four-star prospect by Rivals.com, publicly committed to Ohio State on Sunday.

Thomas, who is 6-foot-3 and 203 pounds, attends Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia, but is from California. He becomes the first non-Ohioan among OSU’s 14 commitments for 2012.

“Our class is far from done,” Thomas said. “I’m going to do my best to try and bring in some more great talent.”

Thomas said he chose Ohio State over Oklahoma State, Notre Dame and Alabama.

I think it would take a tremendous effort and ego-swallowing (no homo) to make a situation work where Fickell stays and works with/under a new head coach, be it UM or someone else.

It would be good for continuity and certainly with recruiting. Fickell has been known for some time as OSU's best recruiter. Can you imagine buttering up a family with Fickel and bringing in Meyer? It certainly worked with him and Tressel and would be at least equally if not improvedly more successful.

Yeah, Fickell's nice guy mentality and then bring in Urban, claiming he had prophetic visions of coaching the kid from the sidelines.

Rumor going around that he agreed to a 7 year deal worth 35 million to be the next head coach.. Probably not true considering the timing but I'm sure he will eventually be the coach.

elevenwarriors: Just to clarify: We were being serious. No timetable for announcement yet, obviously.

They definitely can't announce until the end of the season, but between insiders on OSU forums and 11W (a very credible site), there is a hell of a lot of smoke regarding this news. As an OSU student and fan, I hope beyond hope that it's true.
