Welcome Shawn Marion #31

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Shawn Marion:
“My hip is bothering me right now. I’ve been trying to fight through it as much as I can, but it’s causing me a lot of discomfort,” he said. “ I just want to get back to 100 percent healthy.”
“At this point in my career, it’s just age,” he said. “It’s definitely a very uncomfortable feeling. … It ain’t feeling any better.”
“We have a good thing going right now. It’s about the bigger picture to me,” Marion said of the postseason. “I’ll force it if I need. Right now it’s still early, we still have a little time.”

Marion is still a vet and he will find a way to make some sort of impact in the playoffs. Good guy to throw out there even if it is simply to give someone like Korver a different look.

Same with Miller. I really think those guys will have some big moments or make a crucial play or two. Experience does matter in situations like that.

It's awesome that you mention Korver because that's a great example....

In our first matchup against them Marion started at SG and played 24 minutes. He was the primary defender for Korver and Korver went 0 for 1 with 0 points in 13 minutes. He played so little partly because it was a blowout but he was pulled for good with 8:23 left in the 2nd quarter of that game. Atlanta played the rest of their starters significantly longer. Korver played 39 minutes in their next game 3 days later so I don't think it was injury related.

Marion absolutely smothered him and he couldn't get open.

In our 2nd meeting, Marion held him to 1 for 3 for 4 points in 33 minutes in a Hawks blowout.

In our 3rd meeting, Marion(and LeBron) were out and he instead was covered primarily by guys like Delly, Miller and Harris. He went 7 for 11 in 40 minutes for 19 points.

Marion's length and ability to fight through screens is very valuable for chasing around a shooter like Korver. That's an excellent example of how he can be used come playoff time. Shumpert may be able to cover Korver and maybe even Smith but neither will be able to effectively bother them with length like Marion can.

Hope he's OK and can get healthy for the playoffs. Despite his struggles on offense, I liked the defense and rebounding he was providing when he was in the rotation.

  • Forward Shawn Marion has been dealing with a hip injury for several weeks, so the team sent him back home to have an MRI to determine the extent of the problem.

Anyone know what's behind ASPN's paywall here? The MRI was to be Saturday, I believe.

Looking forward to his healthy return. Some of the spark he showed on defense in the earlier part of the season could give the team a lift when he gets back.

I'm a little surprised they didn't figure this out earlier but better now than in April.

Sucks, but it's not the end of the world I suppose if he still came back in that timeframe. That said, the 2 weeks is a total guess. That's not a very specific injury, so not much they can do to treat it other than elec stim and massage. It's just going to be something that either heals by itself or doesn't over time.

I look for a 10-day Joe Schmo coming in as of today or Wed.

Yeah, seriously....retirement seems like a drastic step to take before even considering an MRI....in all honesty, Shawn (and trainers), WTF...?

Its hard to believe he cannot still be a useful tool for 15 mins a game off the bench.
Unless his skills have fallen off the planet, one has to think this guy can still play.

The Cavs would have to waive someone to add another player. There are 15 on the roster with Perkins signing.

He should take those 2 weeks and go to Miami like LeBron.

Might come back as the Phoenix Suns version of himself.

Even if CAVS bring back entire core there are going to be a number of open roster spots. There is still a ton of dead weight ring chasers on this team.

Marion when not being forced out of position (shooting guard) or injured has still be effective for us in limited time. I can see him helping us out in a good way in the postseason if he can get healthy. He's not a useless washed vet like Miller or Haywood. He can contribute.

Well let's hope he can get back to 100% because he's been pretty useless for the last couple months now. Now we know he was injured so hopefully that is the only cause of his recent poor play.
