Welcome Shawn Marion #31

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I knew he didn't fall completely out of the rotation for anything but nagging injuries. He will be ok and I still think these "old" guys will each have an individual moment in the postseason and vital to the success of this squad.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but I think he fell out of the rotation and this injury stuff is just an excuse for the media to stop bugging Blatt about it. Or maybe keep Marion from getting upset. Marion is probably injured to some degree, but I think he just fell out of the rotation.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but here's a conspiracy...

:chuckle:

But for real, whatever is up with Marion (nagging injury or otherwise), hopefully he can come back enough to give us some production in the playoffs. He probably won't be in our main playoff rotation of 7-8 guys, but earlier in the season there was evidence he had some positive contributions left in the tank, especially on defense. And I'll take whatever bench production I can get. Even if guys like Marion or Miller rarely contribute, they may happen to contribute when it matters most in a game or two in the playoffs

I feel like Mike is really just waiting for the playoffs. Like we are just keeping him healthy for the playoffs. It is an approach we might need to take with Andy from now on as well. Play Andy only like 15-20 min a game and give him plenty of games off so he can be healthy for the playoffs in the future.

For Marion, the biggest thing he can bring us imo is the ability for us to play small ball if we move him to the 4. LeBron is the only other guy that can move to the 4 and let us do that, but he doesn't like to. Marion can match up fairly well there though and we might need him defensively against certain 4's.

I actually miss Shawn Marion. He allowed us to stay good defensively at the 3 spot once Lebron went out. Hopefully he gets back soon.

When is he expected to be back?

A quick Shawn Marion search on Twitter doesn't reveal much. A few general "Go Cavs" messages and a pic of him in the Cavs locker room to prove he still exists...

Nothing on his condition, so he's playing his cards extremely close to the vest, which I have to say, is NOT very encouraging. Especially with him already announcing his retirement.

Of course it would be great if he actually came back, what is 2 weeks....Tues at Dallas, fully healthy. All signs do not point toward that happening. We know the 2 weeks was just a shot in the dark guess. I'm disappointed. Dude is my favorite player, we get him, he starts working out and making us a better team, then his hip falls off a cliff. Sucks.

I just hope he can come back 100% healthy and at least be able to contribute defensively. After last night's 4th quarter, lord knows we could use all the depth we can get.

Yeah Marion is definitely a guy I'd like to be healthy against a team like Atlanta as you could throw him out there against korver, Carroll, or even Teague/Schroeder. Atlanta on offense presents a lot of problems for guys like Delly and Jones while bring in Marion/Shumpert you can go balls to the wall on defense

Are you just assuming at this point that you can plug miller in as a knock down shooter during the playoffs? He's gonna need to find his groove, and if that doesn't happen he's either gonna go cold and be a negative asset, or not play. Miller, although I know he played well last year and made some nice shots this year, will not be a playoff rotation piece if we can't get him more acclimated to our offense in game time situations. I really, really want the guy to succeed and make an impact, but at this point hes looking like a bench hype/emergency reserve kinda guy...and there's nothing wrong with that. That's why we have depth and made the trades to upgrade the positions he'd be subbing in for.

A healthy Marion would be a big benefit for us, I'm surprised there hasn't been more discussion in the press of whether he can return. It could really make the difference in the playoffs, as it's pretty clear that the bench is still the achilles heel of this team. If he could return to playing solid D plus scoring reliably when actually left open? It would be huge.

Hard to think that Blatt and other key decision makers on the team don't appreciate that.

I wasn't suggesting Mike Miller was going to be our savior for the playoffs. But it's entirely possible he will hit a big shot or two if we need it. Even though James Jones seems to be more likely that guy now since he is getting rotational minutes.

A healthy Marion means less minutes for Delly, which isn't a bad thing. Plus having him as a backup stretch 4 would be a nice option when Love sits.
