Even if he regresses? At his current levels what is he on a playoff team? 8th man? If he gets worse he doesn’t see the court. Not sure that equals good money spent.
Cedi needs to make a marked jump in consistency this year.
At some point they need to spend money on the young guys, sure. Let’s hope he’s worth it.
I think they're betting on Cedi's work ethic like they are with Nance. Those two and Love are the only veterans to get multiple year deals. They haven't extended TT, Clarkson, Knight, Henson or Delly. The core so far seems to be: Sexton, Garland, Porter, Windler, Cedi, Nance, and Love.

I wouldn't be surprised if they try and sign Henson to a similar deal. He's 29 and should have some productive years left. He's the only true rim protector on the team and Beilein loves him.

"[John] Henson’s very different from the other bigs. When we watched him playing in pickup, he changes a lot of things for us. We need that very badly." - Beilein

If TT is traded or leaves in free agency the Cavs will be hurting for big men, especially if Henson is also moved. Love is injury prone and Nance is talking about being a stretch 4 now. Zizic is a classic low post center who doesn't fit the modern NBA and Beilein's vision of five players who can all dribble, pass, shoot and drive. Assuming they have a top 10 pick next year I expect them to use it on a center who has some movement and shooting skills if they can get one.

Why would you sign Henson to a long term deal? he is old and doesn't fit the timeline and is really not that good. Can block shots and has a similar hook to TT just without the strength.

I really don't care what Coach Beilein has to say about him. I'm also really against trying to fit player's into Beilein's vision. I don't think he sees that well at his age anyhow.

Even if you/B thinks Zizic doesn't fit the modern NBA, he still needs to see some playing time for gods sakes. He hasn't gotten a chance since he was traded here.
I will say that low post bigs are making a comeback, and Zizic can make an impact at least off the bench if they don't see him in a starter role ever. He is still cheap and we need to see what we have in him, if not only to get some value.

Maybe the front office cares what Beilein has to say about him. Or maybe they don't and they're going to get rid of players he likes and get players that don't fit his system because....uh....I don't know, they want him to fail?

Also, 28 isn't that old for a big. Blake Griffin, who's not a bad power forward, is 30 and seems to be playing OK. That being said, they have three power forwards in Love, Nance, and Henson, so unless they move Nance back to center it looks like Henson could certainly be available.

"I don’t play anymore 5 really. Thank goodness. I’ve been doing a whole lot of 4. A little bit in the post, a whole lot on the wing. The biggest difference between a 4 and 5 in this offense is kind of the freedom it gives you. I think with my playmaking ability that I kind of found last year I think that best suits me". - Larry Nance Jr

Played very passive today, kind of like a guy that just got 30mil in his piggy bank. I prefer passive cedi than out of control cedi though

Maybe he has been out celebrating the last couple nights..

Seems like he isn't quite comfortable with his role in the offense yet. I liked what Austin and Brad said, that he needs confidence and they both feel that's the one thing he lacks. Seems like they both felt it will grow as well in a defined role.

Yes he was very passive today. But the question is him or Beilein's system and his new role in the team?
He was just waiting in the corner all the time. No offensive role, nothing. Thank you Beilein!

I think he was the odd man out yesterday in terms of the starting unit, that's going to happen. I think it would happen less if he could be worked into the second unit if we didn't have Clarkson taking up so many possessions.

I hope to hell we don't acquire long-term talent based on Beilein's particular "vision."

Yeah, who the hell would want a team full of versatile and dynamic players?

What does that even mean? To me, that's wildly non-specific. Or is there something more specific that you believe Beilein has in mind?

In the post you quoted, you bolded "and Beilein's vision of five players who can all dribble, pass, shoot and drive."

Why wouldn't we want that regardless of who our coach is?

In the post you quoted, you bolded "and Beilein's vision of five players who can all dribble, pass, shoot and drive."

1) Because it may mean you're ignoring some prodigious talents who can't "dribble, pass, shoot, and drive." Rather than simply drafting the best talent available and figuring out how to best utilize those talents within a system that you adjust to fit the talent, you're instead constantly searching for players who fit a pre-determined system, and rejecting those who don't. Even if the available players who can do a little bit of everything aren't actually as good as other guys who are available. So you pass up guys like Jokic, Gobert, and Vucevic. Klay Thompson had poor handles for an SG, rarely drove, and really wasn't much of a passer either. Giannis is a crappy shooter.

2) It also has no mention at all of players who can defend. Very college-like to worry only about offense, and count on your defensive system to be good enough regardless of your defensive talent.

Why wouldn't we want that regardless of who our coach is?

Because you're never going to be able to get that -- nobody ever does. Even GSW at their greatest didn't have that. A good coach is going to want some players who can't do all those things, will figure out how to best take advantage of the talents they do possess, and will want to hang on to them. The idea that we're going to reject players who don't fit Beilein's particular vision of what amounts to positionless basketball is foolish to me because it inevitably will lead to overlooking some more talented players.

Of all the players that need to be featured offensively on this team, Cedi is way down the list. He's the 4th or 5th option among the starters. Some nights he just isn't going to have a large role. If he develops into a much better player he can and will be featured more, but alas, he's just not that good. Cedi is just OK at everything and excels at absolutely nothing. He's fortunate to be playing for the Cavs who have next to zero wing talent which affords him the opportunity to be a starter in the NBA. Hopefully he takes advantage of the opportunity and makes some substantial improvements to his game.

I agree with this to the extent Cedi has more of an ability than most to contribute without being featured offensively. He's a nice complementary player who is great at keeping the ball moving, and you need those kind of guys.
