Glad it's happening for the Vikings, sometimes voices go stale when they've been there too long with the same players, but someone is going to get real lucky if they pair up Edwards and Gray again.
Sure, Edwards didn't call plays, but he was heavily involved in game planning for the defense, which has been a major strength of the Vikings the entire tenure he spent there.
And Gray's track record of developing DBs speaks for itself, between the Legion of Boom in its infancy and the group the Vikings were putting out there from 2014 to 2018.
Have to think Andre Patterson follows with those guys, no?
His work in Minnesota is ELITE, they've done an incredible job of developing that talent on the DL.
Makes sense. In choosing Patterson, they are passing up Gray, who has loyalties to Edwards. They might have felt like it could be an issue to have a passed over Gray on the staff without Edwards there and with another internal candidate being given the DC position.Rumor is he is the front-runner for DC in Minnesota.

I’m sure he’s a good coach but zimmer worked a lot on the dline too. More than anywhere else. So it’s hard to tell who’s the reason for their success.
A big, BIG fan of Edwards and Gray. I think that is exactly what the Browns need in a DC, a great teacher and game planner. Let the talent do the rest.
Would mean Andre Patterson didn't get the promotion. Wonder if he would be available to be poached after all.
If I’m Jerry Gray and Andre Patterson, I’m not sure I’m to keen on sticking around after being passed up for the job by the coaches 36 year old son, even if his work as LB Coach is supposedly good.
