Using career averages when Schröder was a back up on playoff team early in his career... Schröder is a solid 6th man now who failed as a starter that we’d absolutely take from Sexton at this point.
I say poor mans Schröder because he will likely never be as good as Dennis at passing or defending and therefore just be a small bench scorer.

If you’re honestly expecting Sexton to develop into Lou Williams who’s closer to an all star than a regular bench player then you are gonna be very disappointed

You do realize he's 21 years old and has played exactly 1.5 seasons right? You have no idea how much better Sexton will get, players tend to keep getting better until they're 25-28. Sexton's career numbers at 21 years old are already better than Lou Williams career numbers. Your hatred for Sexton is blinding you.

I bet you also didn't realize that it took Lou about 8-10 years to become a 6th man type player and it wasn't until his 13th season that he averaged as many pts as Collin does this year. Collin is a hard worker and my money is on him improving the weak areas in his game.

The hatred for Sexton bothers me, especially coming from a team that needs as much talent as possible right now. He's not perfect but he's been better offensively in his 1.5 seasons than anyone could've imagined. He's 21 years old and should be a junior in college, yet he's in the NBA and can flat out score the ball. He needs to learn how to play team ball but to just right him off and say they hate him and he's their least favorite player in the league (cant remember which rcf member said that) is ridiculous. At the very least he's a 6th man off the bench destroying other teams bench players. That's better than 75-80% of players in the league.

I dont get the hate for him either. He was the 8th pick not #1. He can flat out score. At 21 plenty of time to improve other aspects
Never gets hurt. Works his ass off in practice reportedly
I am fine with him

Its because his selfishness on the court is, essentially, unparalleled. Never seen it before quite loke this lol.

It's a serious problem. I am not sure it is insurmountable, but if he can't make progress in this area it severely restricts his ceiling. Weird that it is trending worse, even though I would say him playing off the ball has made him look a lot better. It seems like he scores 20 no matter if he is handling the ball or not, so why not take the ball out of his hands and Let Garland orchestrate?

I would have guessed he had more than one assist last night because he moved the ball at times and swung it. The bigs couldn't catch a pass in traffic from him though. I believe that is the Clippers style to go for the steal from the big instead of guarding them in the paint due to the clips lack of size, but maybe those passes weren't any good.

I think this is a maturity issue. Dos he care about getting blocked so much? Does he care his teammates don't like giving him the ball to initiate? Does he want to play in a freeflowing scheme where the ball gets distributed? It looks to me like it is easier for him to score when the ball isn't always in his hands. Can he relate to that?

To me it comes down to his mentality and if he is willing to work on his flaws. I dunno. Last year you would hear him say he needed to get his teammates involved more and that talk has sort of died down. Right now he is gunning for the rising stars sophomore challenge. If he gets some recognition, will he be able to settle down and read the defense? Is it possible that he is just going too fast and if he would slow down and be more deliberate and make quicker decisions instead of body movements would that help? Very hard when we don't know his mentality how to fix it.

How good could Sexton ultimately be? He could be an all star,,if he works on his all around game. His gifts are ridiculous. His ability to break down defenses is crazy,,the problem is when help comes he's forcing up shots and getting them blocked. He's not recognizing sometimes its better to defer to a teammate than try forcing things. Halfway through his second year his assists are down from 3.0 last year to 2.2 this year...and its not only the numbers. They eye test tells you he's actually regressing in that area. Everyone knows he can score but the worry is he won't ever get the total picture to be as good as he can be.
No one "hates'" him...lol

Collin is not from a nba family or a coaches son he is more like one of us who works hard and loves to play basketball I stay off of these sites and post very little because I give a player time to succeed without trying to tear them down.

I do lol haters going toe hate. Really liked Shia and I didn't like Jordan Clarkson either and this dude is a mini Jordan of the Clarkson and not of Michael type. Give the keys to Garland!

And Sefton can absolutely fill it up.

But man, he has to open his eyes before he can be considered anything of value. Hes not Lou Williams ATM. Hes Clarkson.

I hope he doesnt top out at Clarkson. I want him to be bettwr.

Anyone have stats on shots blocked by players per year? Feels like that's something young players eventually start to figure out. Hopefully the solution is being more unselfish looking to pass off when he breaks down defenses.

And he's currently on pace to have more shots blocked than assists which is....really an incredible stat for a guard lol.

No it’s not, what’s blinding you is his age and draft status.
I keep hearing this age excuse and that he can fix all the floors in his game becausd he is a hard worker.Well, he hasn’t shown any improvement to date, his shooting is backwards, his passing is backwards, his defense is exactly the same. He’s one of the worst players in the league that gets regular minutes for a second straight season. He played an entire year of college, he’s never missed an NBA game to this point, he’s one of the most experienced 21 year olds you’ll ever find and he still can’t operate a pick and roll.
I bet you’re one of the people that were still wanting to give Dion a few more years.

He needs to accept that Garland is the PG, on a consistent basis. When he does, he will have more nights like against the Clippers. When he fights for the ball, he is undermining himself.

I don't think the organization or the coaches want settle on Garland being the PG and Sexton being an undersized SG at the moment. If they are both combo guards who are good both on and off the ball, it maximize both of them on this team. Both of them can take up all 48 minutes of the PG minutes and hopefully reduce the defensive flaw of the pairing. If the coaches can forward scout opposing teams rotations, they can play Sexton and Garland together against the smaller or easier backcourt pairings.

I honestly thought if Garland was getting more assists, he would be more competitive with him, but he seems happy to score.
