Here's hoping a lot of key young Browns are feeling the same way right now.

Njoku is the only one that wasn't visibly happy when shown. Everyone else seemed to thoroughly enjoy the season and want more--even to the point of saying so. Id love to have Njoku back, but think the Browns should do right by him either way. That said, it appears to be a noticeable, and lasting, difference in what DePo, Berry and Stefanski are building here.

Exactly.

Its a business.

Watson is a Top 3 QB in this league.
I'll slightly disagree, I think he's top 5 (Mahomes, Rogers, Allen, Jackson, then DeShaun) but yes he's one of the best. I think the cost would be prohibitive, however, no doubt the Texans would have numerous offers... even though Baker straight up would be fair for a team in a pinch. Browns are in a good position regardless.

The difference between Baker and Watson will, imo, be negligible next season.

We can talk about how shitty Houston is all we want, Watson still had much better weapons at WR than Browns gave Baker last year. Cooks, Fuller and maybe Cobb were better than Landry. JMO.

Maybe. Worse line, worse running game, worse coaching though. And considering all of those things working against him, relative to his production, I think it is pretty obvious he is a vastly superior player.

The things that are particularly unique about Watson are his metrics throwing down the field. He would eviscerate teams in a good PA scheme. He’s already one of the elite guys there with a bad run game and a bad line. He would be unstoppable with his running / throwing ability in a system that has so many great rollout wrinkles as well.

I’m in the keep Baker camp. But it would make sense to me if they were kicking the tires. Watson is an elite QB.....and while it is possible Baker eventually becomes one, it is still not likely. And relative to his individual success and age, I think he’s going to get paid well north of what people are expecting. As much as Watson? Probably not but I think the amount is going to be fairly negligible at the end of the day.

Hmmm.
Baker. 21 first, 22 first and Njoku for Watson.

HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NO!!! Baker and *one* of those other pieces is all id do. The difference between Baker and Watson is not TWO #1s AND a TE1/2.

Once again, Watson in his 3rd year was on just about the exact same trajectory Baker was on this year (his 3rd year) and has been afforded the consistency and continuity of being in the same offense, with the same weapons for years.

Mayfield should make a massive jump this season afforded both of the same things. Just because Watson has been given more development time in the league doesn't make him better long term.

I won’t yet give credibility like that to Jackson or Allen until their teams are as bad as DeShaun’s, and Watson still dominates both in nearly every metric.

If Allen or Jackson had Watson’s supporting cast and had the third pick in the draft, people around the league wouldn’t have either of them above Watson.

What makes you assume there is some mythical pattern of “trajectory” all QBs have between years 3-4?

Watson’s trajectory isn’t assumed to be the same as mayfield’s, why would I assume such a thing?

Evaluating a 3rd year QB vs a 4th, 5th or 6th year QB is ridiculous.

Develop your guy.

Houston has no need for Baker. If they trade Watson, they aren’t going to want to have to pay for a QB extension in 2 years. They’ll want to replenish their draft stock.
Watson is fetching at least 2 firsts.

The Browns could have had Watson already.

Instead they traded down for Peppers, who went to NYG and a 2018 Houston pick that became Ward.

So you could have had Watson, or Baker, Ward and OBJ.

Trading multiple firsts for Watson more or less robs them of any value coming from those previous deals.

If Watson could be had for Baker and a couple firsts, does it really result in more wins?

The Browns are already a team with an offense good enough to get them to the Super Bowl. What they need is a proper defense and they cannot afford to ship out multiple high picks to facilitate that improvement.

I thought the pick from Houston became Ward.
