2021 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
DE is probably the biggest need defensively, to me.

Finding the rusher opposite Garrett who can provide the pressure necessary when he's schemed around is integral to the success of whoever winds up in the back seven.

An absolute MUST for this off-season.

Ossai would be near the top of my list. 30 QB pressures from a hybrid DE/OLB is pretty productive (72 over the last two years), especially for someone who also was able to drop into coverage as well.

I have wanted a Hybrid LB/Edge, one that can play 3 downs and disrupt from OLB or DE, do you think it works in our scheme though? And is Ossai fast enough or athletic enough to do it from the OLB spot? Edge sure, but can he put on enough weight to play the DE in a 3-4 full time?

If they pick Ossai i think we have our answers on scheme

WR weigh ins always surprise me. Tylan Wallace is going to Diggs level drop because of his testing.

Another surprise was the DL from UCLA weighing 280. Totally shocked. Thought he weighed about 20 lighter.

I agree our back 7 needs a lot of work but I understand 1 thing about NFL defenses if you cant put pressure on the QB then it doesn't matter who you have back there. The 2 most important positions on the defense are RDE and LDE. Not having to blitz 5 and 6 guys to get pressure on QB keeps ur CBs off islands. Plus making them double team or chipping ur DE makes it easier for ur DTs or keeps another guy from going out.

Not saying you're wrong, but there are people in the NFL analysis space that would strongly disagree with this.

Sack percentage has been steadily trending down even though there are signs that offensive lines as a whole are getting worse, defensive lines are getting better, and the dramatic increase in passing league wide.

Why?

Because the average time from snap to release has dropped dramatically at the same time.

The Steelers do not have a good offensive line and Roethlisberger at age 38 was practically immobile, yet he was only sacked 13 times all year because he got rid of the ball quicker than any QB in the league.

With more and more teams trending this "do whatever it takes with the quick passing game to neutralize the pass rush" direction, the case could be made that teams actually need corners and safeties and linebackers who can hold up in short areas as much as they need pure pass rushers.

At the end of the day, defensively it's not really going to work if one of the two groups (pass rush/pass coverage) is absolutely terrible, so you certainly need a baseline of competency at both spots. But I'm not convinced one is tremendously more valuable than the other at this point.

I believe we are dealing with the Law of Non-Contradiction here. Both things can be equally true in this case. In a conservative defensive scheme, generating a pass rush with 4-5 pass rushers is a necessity. At the same time, offenses can scheme a quick passing offensive plan as a counter a strong pass rush.

I personally look to the defensive moves our front office and coach made last off-season: The Browns were, in fact, two deep at every position along the defensive backs and defensive line. Injuries caused the depth to get a lot of playing time, and ended up the team's biggest weakness at times.

So what can we expect this year? Defensive depth, ideally at every position. And due to serious injuries, the Browns need a talent infusion at both DE and CB. Assuming Larry O. moves on, DI is also a need.

New add to the Senior Bowl roster:

Janarius Robinson - DE - FSU

Long player, looks pretty bendy. Has some wiggle with his moves, lacks quite a bit with his hands and counters.

Pure projection, looking forward to seeing what kind of metrics he can put up. At his size, could be pretty impressive.

Senior Bowl Weigh In:

6'5, 266 pounds
35.75'' arm
87'' wing :chuckle:
11'' hand

Other notables:
Peyton Turner:
6'5, 270, 84'' wing, 35'' arm, 10.25'' hand

Patrick Jones:
6'4, 264, 79 5/8'' wing, 32'' arm, 10'' hand

Rashad Weaver:
6'4, 265, 83'' wing, 33 1/4'' arm, 9 3/4'' hand

Jordan Smith:
6'6, 255, 83+'' wing, 33 3/8'' arm, 9 1/4'' hand

After watching some film on Collins, the dude is a missile. He would be an absolute game changer for this defense. What impressed me was his play recognition. Never really got fooled by play fakes.

Aight Collins is my draft season crush. All but guarantees we will not select him.

Chazz Surratt came in a bit undersized at just 6’1 1/2 and 227, with some relatively short arms.

30’’ arms as well.

That’s likely going to ding him. Still think he’s a tremendous player and a special teams demon at worst.

It's a shame there's a lot of bad tape of Surratt in coverage. Let's see how he runs, because his quarterback experience could make him a developmental safety/linebacker hybrid prospect.

I thought he measured how he looked, but I don’t disagree that it’s going to ding him.

I’m so in on him. Just a total missile. Going to have to watch Robinson, too. Where does he project?

Good to see you back in here as the OG draft poster. What are your thoughts on Jabril Cox in day 2?

Yeah seems like high bust potential here. Very raw and their other guys where playing lb seems to be come more natural in terms of instincts.
