2021 NBA Draft Safari

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Good defensively? hard to tell how he is going to look like in the NBA. He has the BB IQ, hands, timing to pile up boxscore defensive stats, but i'm not sure how he is going to look like defensively guarding nba guards in space and nba centers. He is going to need to grow into his body and really improve his physique. He is so young, so it's possible.

I suppose Nathan is more fit to answer this question though.

I like his vertical defense and rim protection. I don't think he will be a standout rim protector, but with the timing, instincts and fundamentals I think he will be fine (not to mention the stats already).

But it's the later quickness I worry about. Lots of video of him not showing too good lateral movements, it shows up offensively too. If he's someone who you run off in crunch time it's unfortunate.

But if that's fine, I see almost no holes in his game (assuming continuous improvements as he ages).

It's hard to disentangle his lateral quickness from his lack of experience defending the perimeter. Last season, when he was 270+ pounds, it would've been comical for him to step out to the 3-point line and try to contain a ballhandler. So he basically got no experience in those situations at all until this season. Considering his youth, I think just basic training on his stance and footwork could take him from bad to just mildly below-average (e.g. like Sabonis) in that area.

That would great. For sure he seems like a smart player on both ends with very good instincts in all areas, so that bodes well for improvement here too.

I'm really excited to see how he develops in the league eventually.

I also have one mea culpa after watching a lot of Suggs film......

If the organization thinks Garland is the guy to build around, assuming Suggs is a legit 6'4"......I kind of like him a lot as a SG next to Garland. Just watching him play, he seems unselfish enough to make something like that work.

The shooting moderately scares me.......but just his ability to rebound, defend, cut / relocate and be a secondary playmaker. It is all just the perfect skillset to put next to Darius. Maybe that is an insane idea, to move Suggs off the point......but his film just screams combo guard to me......and I also think his profile is more palatable there as well.

Suggs involves (probably) moving Collin......which I'm sure we have not considered at this point. But Suggs is specifically the guy I would love to hear the Cavs internally debate about. Especially if there is any momentum internally for Garland being "the guy".

This seems to be a draft where I like guys more when considering them for non consensus positions (Suggs as a 2, Cade as a 3). Curious to see where these guys land and how those teams use them.
Suggs the all state dual threat QB and all state PG is not being drafted to play off ball imo lol , but he does have that versatility if they want to flirt around with line ups. I personally don't see Garland willing to take an off ball role like Sexton has been willing to do and imo would be in a situation where Garland ended playing off Suggs or brought off the bench until his agent demanded a trade. I think it would happen quickly once Suggs outplayed him as a much more complete floor general.
I don't see them drafting Suggs unless they have a trade for Garland in place or he is there at 6 and they just take the bpa

This mock has a top6 of Green, Cunningham, Mobley, Suggs(to Cavs), Kuminga, and Barnes. They put Giddey at 11(along with Ball in Charlotte) and Sengun at 14

Nothing to take seriously. There will be dozens of these prior to the lotto and then dozens more after the lotto leading up to the draft.

Kinda weird to see Keon so high in so many mocks. He's a good dunker, but at 6'5", what else does he bring to the table?

I think some teams will bank on the positional advantage potential he just needs to be coached up and improve his decisions in game. He makes plays and can generate charity stripe trips at will but doesn't make enough ft to matter right now. I think looks to be not just good but absolutely elite leaper and covers ground easily as a defender rebounds well and overall has a high high ceiling but a lower floor if he doesnt work.

Just feels like another Okoro situation, but Keon has even less ability to play minutes at SF. For that reason I doubt he's on the Cavs' radar, but someone's going to draft him high apparently.

Update on this:

-Sengun's team (Besiktas) will face #1 seed Efes in the Turkish league semifinals. They're heavy underdogs (just 40/1 to win the championship), but he'll get some more good playoff experience regardless of the result.

-Giddey's team (Adelaide) finds its playoff hopes fading. They'll probably need to win all of their remaining 5 games to have a chance. Giddey just played one of his worst games of the season, with 4 points on 2/11 shooting.

-Garuba's team (Real Madrid) was eliminated from the Euroleague playoffs, but they still have the Spanish League playoffs coming up. They'll very likely have the #1 seed.

-Prkacin's team (Cibona) is in the semifinals of the Croatian League playoffs, which begin tomorrow. He's been in a slump his last few games.

-Bleijenbergh's team (Antwerp) is in the Belgian League playoffs, which begin in a couple days. He's had some big games lately, and a championship push could put him on the first round radar.

-Diop's team (Gran Canaria) is one of four teams virtually tied for the last playoff spot in the Spanish League. Maybe he can provide a spark off the bench in one of their two crucial remaining games.

-Procida's team (Cantu) has been relegated, and their season is over.

-Jokubaitis's team (Zalgiris) has advanced to the Lithuanian League semifinals. They've overwhelmingly expected to win the championship. He earned his first start in months a couple days ago, and produced a respectable 10 points, 4 boards, and 4 assists. He's been steady but unspectacular.

-Petrusev's team (Mega) begins the Serbian League playoffs next week. They'll attempt to stand in the way of Crvena zvezda, which has won 5 straight Serbian League championships.

-Cazalon is Petrusev's teammate on Mega. He's a very different kind of prospect, young and raw with excellent physical tools. These playoffs are a great opportunity for him.

-Hukporti's team (Nevezis) has been relegated, and their season is over. He finished on a high with 16 points, 11 boards, 4 assists, and 2 blocks in their final game, but it may not be enough to get him drafted.

We're down to 6 international prospects still in action (at least among the ones I'm tracking)

-Sengun's team (Besiktas) was swept in the Turkish league semifinals, and their season is over.

-Giddey's team (Adelaide) has a few games left, but Giddey's season is over.

-Garuba's team (Real Madrid) is in the Spanish league playoffs, which begin next week. They're the #1 seed, but #2 seed Barca are the title favorites.

-Prkacin's team (Cibona) was swept in the Croatian league semifinals, and their season is over.

-Bleijenbergh's team (Antwerp) advanced to the Belgian league semifinals, which begin tomorrow.

-Diop's team (Gran Canaria) earned a hard-fought playoff berth and will face Garuba's Real Madrid in the first round. It's very likely that the 19-year-olds will match up against each other at times.

-Procida's team (Cantu) has been relegated, and their season is over.

-Jokubaitis's team (Zalgiris) is in the Lithuanian league semifinals; they're favored to win the championship.

-Petrusev and Cazalon's team (Mega) is in the Serbian league playoffs which begin Thursday. They're among the better teams, but #1 seed Crvena Zvezda is the overwhelming favorite.

-Hukporti's team (Nevezis) has been relegated, and their season is over.

I think he gets used as an energy defender as well early on

I think so too, but he's a less interesting defensive prospect than Okoro, IMO. Like, if Okoro looked small against NBA wings, Keon's gonna look even smaller. It's much easier to find rotation minutes for an energy guy wing/big than for an energy guy guard.
