2021 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Benson at age 23 having his best year since turning pro which isnt saying much. 406 OBA ,484 SLG 890 OPS is encouraging despite poor BA of 226. Putting him in at leadoff position was a good idea.
IIRC @BimboColesHair started talking about his undergoing swing changes 3-4 years ago.

Hopefully we’re seeing those changes come to fruition.

Benson is having an excellent season, considering how ugly some of it looks. Does that matter?

1. Legit raw power - which has shown up
2. Possible ++ Base running
3. Possible ++ defense.
4. Ball 4 no problem
5. Strike 3, problem.

Agreed, moving him to leadoff was an excellent idea. 226/406/484

He’s getting really close.

I know he’s been frustrated that he hasn’t been able to bring the mechanics into games consistently and everything is kind of blending for him, but he’s really, really close.

Mentioned his head movement either in here or in the Spring Training thread before the minors season started. It was bad. His High School/early pro head movement mixed with his shortened mechanics was a chore to watch. That head movement is going away, and it’s been a huge detriment for him. Just needs to go away consistently.

You watch him in the cage/BP and it’s a different player, mechanics wise. Just needs it to show up consistently in games because the tools are still loud as hell.

Where do you see his current floor/ceiling? Would a likely comp of Zimmer with more pop be accurate? Floor? Ceiling?

If we get someone out of Benson, that would be awesome. Watching him for years has been a true, true slog. But man what a lotto ticket.

I'll admit to have given up on Benson, but this two month breakout has pulled me back in.

Bimbo, between him, O. Gonzalez and Palacios, what odds would you put on them being rostered IF they keep up current performance?

For me, Palacios is at 100%, Gonzalez 75% and Benson 50%

I believe any of them is very likely to be selected if left unprotected. With so little OF depth for next season, those are exactly the profiles to roster as immediate depth, right? They can't add 5 or 7 A Ball players.

Perhaps a kudos is in order for the hitting coach/others in Akron this year. There seems to be an obvious improvement for a lot of players. The two players promoted, Brooks and Call are not priority guys but both get a chance to press on, and both showed legit signs of improvement. Excited to see what Palacios, Freeman, Benson and OGonz do at the next level.

The Bradley backup plan was (and still is) Naylor and Miller. Nolan Jones should be committed to the OF/RF 100%. If anyone ends up playing 1st if Bradley cannot it, will be Chang or Miller or a trade before Jones in 2021 IMO. Brooks can play OF too I guess, if you want to press Jones into 1st base service.. I just don't see any future for Jones at 1st base when RF is such a natural and somewhat pressing need.

Edit. Completely disagree about Miller not being able to learn on the job while playing other positions. Not ideal for sure, but he can handle it. Jones, probably not.

In case nobody has noticed, Naylor is unavailable.

We have no...nada...zero...zilch..
true 1Bs on the 40 man. Chang and Miller are emergency 1Bs only. We have none anywhere near MLB ready. We don't even have an OF capable of taking over 1B.

Who is the only player above AA outside of Bradley that profiles as a fulltime 1B, if needed?

Jones

According to multiple posters...some highly respected....some not so much...

EVERY prospect looks good...has a big future...is just this much away...is moving quickly up the prospect ladder of farm system that is already highly rated.

And yet, many of the same posters insist that we don't have a 40 man problem coming in less than six months.

I dont get it.

Miller and Chang, actually aren't bad at 1B, Clement I am sure could play there as well if needed... Brooks has only been a 1B all season and Marabell has been there part time as well...

I did joke about Zimmer being there cause of his height, can he field grounders? Lol

So like CATS said……there are no other 1B options. Those options are not first basemen. They are MIF given a 1B mitt because there are no 1B.

Bradley will play first 90% of the time and Chang can step in for a game if Bradley needs a day off. If Bradley is injured they bring up Brooks who has played 35 games at first base this season at Akron and Columbus. His OPS at Columbus is .948. Bradley's OPS in Columbus was .751.

If you want me to list a bunch of negatives about our guys when I talk about them, I will gladly do so. My posts will be fewer and farther between because it's easier to focus just on a few things just to share with everyone when I am crunched for time as is, but if that's what is wanted that is the route I will go.

And no one is saying "we don't have a 40 man problem" coming this winter. We are saying it isn't going to be as bad as you think it will be, because it won't be.

Please don't. Enough negativity floating around these parts!

A little story on Benson from last weekend… albeit not an important story. With the new netting from foul pole to foul pole, it can sometimes be difficult to interact with fans/kids. It was about the middle of the game and a brother and sister have seats along the right field line in the first row. During the inning, they were yelling for Will to throw them a ball after a single. He motions to them that he noticed them. The following inning, just as warmup throws were being completed, he walks over to the netting, hands it to them between the net personally, and their faces lit up like it was Christmas morning. It was a really nice gesture on Will’s part.
