2021 Trade Ideas and Deadline talk!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We need another 1B in case Bradley continues to miss the ball as he is........and has. Not just for this season, but someone for the next couple of seasons. Ideally they would be able to play a corner OF too. Jones could be that guy and I'd like to find out soon. I don't want to go into next season with all our eggs in BB's basket.

Edited to say that how nice it would be if Reyes could play and acceptable OF or 1B. It would open up the DH spot and give Cherny some flexibility.

Reyes is one guy for that.. Nolan Jones is another.. The wild card in the mix is a returning from injury Josh Naylor.

Josh Naylor will be back and given an opportunity. My guess is Josh's OF days could be done. If so, he is a 1B/ DH guy and that opens OF time for Reyes/ Jones/ others.

Eddie was hitting the ball quite well. What was absent was his power, and that was starting to show itself as well. I don't expect to get much of anything, if anything at all, for Eddie, but he could help a contender when he gets healthy.

On the year he is at 254/296/389/685 OPS+ 84 WAR 0.4

That "production" will cost around 4 million bucks. He could be a lefty off the bench or emergency option but not much more IMO.

I guess we'll know soon enough.

I don't think Naylor nor the coaches want him to be done in the OF... We don't know how well he will look after coming back, but it wouldn't be surprising. I just have a hunch he will come into camp lighter and stronger than this season...

They didn't like Naylor at 1B prior to the injury and I doubt they do when he returns. I also have my doubts that he'll be ready by the start of next season. Unfortunately for Josh, that was a horrid injury and the worst part of it wasn't the fracture.

I'd love to see them trade for and extend Aguilar because I think it could be done at a fair, acceptable price, but that's just fantasy and will never happen. That's the kind of bat I want to add.

If you're basing your decision merely off of his performance this season to this point then you're right. I don't think teams do that for the most part though.

Naylor will play some games at spring training... I would bet good money on it...

What multiple people are missing is the following: There is no IL during the off-season.

So those players on the 60 day IL (Cam Hill, Josh Naylor, Carlos Vargas Jordan Luplow) all get added back onto the roster shortly after the end of the World Series. The CLE FO is not going to waive/ release Josh Naylor in 2021.
Not a guy they traded for who is also the brother of a top prospect in the system.
That runs counter to the way the organization operates.
They will work with him to get healthy again & see what he is capable of in spring training (or on rehab with the minors). Everyone will be thrilled if can play in the OF again, but I wouldn't bet on it. IF able to play in the general sense but unable to play OF, Josh becomes a 1B/DH option. It is the way it goes.

Who said anything about them releasing Naylor? I'll be surprised if he is able to start the 22 season on time, but I never inferred his release. I think they'll try to work him back as the LFer. If that doesn't work then I'm not sure because they don't like him as the full time 1B.

The organization likes Naylor too much not to find him a position... They will try him at LF, RF and 1B once he can play again and see which one he can play...

Vargas isn't on the 60 day IL, it's Luplow...

You are correct... Flipped Luplow & Vargas in my mind..

It happens, I thought Vargas may be stuck being moved to the 60 when all those pitchers went down... So we can just add an arm to cover innings

@CDAV45

I think I found the trade you wanted in some ways...

My guess would be Plesac would be there target... So a deal like Plesac + Hernandez +PTBNL for C Bart, RHP Hjelle, 1B Wyatt, SS Aeverson Artega (plus maybe a lotto ticket prospect)

I think that looks legit to me from the Indians side...Future C in Bart and their number 2 prospect (top 6 for us), a 6'11 SP in Hjelle, with solid command that our pitching factory would love (number 11 prospect, would be top 16 for us) , a 1B prospect in Wyatt, you want depth wise (their number 17, top 24 for us) and Artega (yes I know another MIF who is 18) who is their 22nd ranked prospect (would be the top 24 type for us)...

Edit: trade simulator said the deal works out btw!

I want a more proven big leaguer in any trade involving Plesac. The proposals above seem high risk, high reward, which I’m not convinced is the direction the Tribe FO wants to go.

The philosophy of the Giants is this, work the count, take walks, and only swing at pitches you can drive. That’s why Farhan Zaidi so sought after players like Mike Tauchman and Tommy La Stella. In 2020, as a big leaguer, Joey Bart took three walks and struck out 41 times. That is a glaring problem. However, it’s fair to say he wasn’t ready for that level of competition.

In 2021, as a member of the Sacramento Rivercats, Joey Bart has taken 11 walks and struck out 50 times. This demonstrates that Bart hasn’t been able to correct this problem. The offensive philosophy employed by the Giants that has generated so much success is the opposite of what Joey Bart has shown to be as an offensive player.
