ngl the thought of pairing barnes with sexton, making them the faces of the franchise, was super tempting to me

all this talk about culture and effort, they would shit culture and effort down everyone's throats

Yeah I really liked him and he is huge

I'm as big a Sexton fan as there is on this forum but genuinely a little concerned now. This will be his 4th season and the Cavs have never put him into any kind of environment to succeed. They still don't have an NBA caliber wing over 6'-6" on the roster. Now they will be starting off this season with a brutal schedule on top of it.

I don’t think it can be underestimated how much he should benefit from no longer having to worry about playing a single minute as PG now that we’ve added Rubio and Pangos to the roster.

He was forced to play heavy PG minutes last year with just Garland and Delly on the roster, and it was detrimental to his performance.

Esp on a roster that still lacks spacing and anyone worth passing too besides himself

The flip side of this argument is that Sexton's rookie year, they had Hood, Burke, and Clarkson who could all play backup SG minutes. Since the Cavs traded those guys, they haven't had even a single replacement-level backup SG on the roster. We don't really know what the drop off between Sexton and replacement level SG is, on this team, because we haven't had one on the team in two and half seasons.

That’s not the flip side of what I’m saying at all.

It's the flip side to the all-of-Sexton's-flaws-are-the-result-of-poor-roster-construction argument (or coaching, or whatever). We don't have a particularly good read of how the team would perform with a replacement level SG starting instead of Sexton because we haven't had even a replacement level backup SG on the roster. The roster construction has sucked, as is often the case early in a rebuild, but Sexton has benefited from it sucking as well. On a team like the Celtics, Heat, or Spurs, they'd at least have a replacement level guy at his position to replace him with when he wasn't performing well or doing what was asked of him.

I have never once argued that, or anything close to it. You’re talking to the wrong guy.

You can probably argue all the young kids have been hampered by poor roster construction tbh. The past few seasons the Cavs have lacked a quality backup PG, starting caliber wings and dependable starting PF.
