Early 22 GM Thread! (Trade Ideas here)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
............

I think the payroll would end up around $5 mil higher than budgeted in this thread, but close enough to be in reach. And we hit every off season target.

Two corner OFs bats, without sacrificing much defense.
Back up plan/RH platoon bat for 1B.
More offense from our catchers, without sacrificing much defense.
Veteran reliever.
Protect nearly every prospect.
Retain our rotational depth.

The only negative is that it leaves us with no bullpen depth. We'd have only eight relievers on the 40 man....only 18 total pitchers, and Vargas can't be considered for 2022.

I'm not sure the FO will consider beginning a season with only 17 available pitchers on the 40 man.
@CATS44
There is a HUGE difference in the roster being setup in November and the roster of players at the start/ then end of Spring Training.

Having only 17 or 18 pitchers is not an issue in mid/ late November. There will continue to be roster churn and more arms will be eventually added before the season starts.

A modication to a Tampa Bay fan's trade for Jose Ramirez has been discussed a bit.. after modifications w/ some other teams involved, the result would be:

The Guardians sacrifice Zack Plesac and Jose Ramirez
The Guardians receive: Austin Meadows (ML OF'er), Vidal Brujan (ML OF'er/MIF'er), Shea Langeliers (MiLB C; 2022) Kyle Wright (ML SP/RP), Bobby Miller (MiLB SP; 2022) and Andy Pages (MiLB OF'er; 2023)

Discussion: Meadows and Brujan make up a brand new, more than capable corner OF tandem, something the Guardians lack. Shea Langeliers is only behind Adley Rutschman and perhaps Joey Bart w/r to being a complete catching prospect and is slated to be ready sometime in 2022. Kyle Wright pitched very well out of the Braves bullpen in the playoffs (two game, almost six inning 1.6 ERA with a strike out per inning. He has a lot more to offer than he's shown, so, he could be a helluva change of scenery kind of pitcher. Bobby Miller is a flat out stud RHSP. He may not be ready on April 1st (service time manipulation) but, he's going to be the equal or better of any pitching prospect the Guardians currently have in their system.. including Daniel Espino. Andy Pages is a future prospect OF'er that has some ability. He won't be ready for a major league opportunity until 2023.. at the earliest..

So, the Guardians are able to compete now and into the future.. and they'd save a few scheckels while they're at it..

Thoughts?..
I think Jose is too expensive for Tampa even at his current team-friendly contract.

Disagree.. he's exactly the kind of expense the Rays fans want to see and the Rays ownership can afford..

It also depends on the CBA and if their is a floor as well. If there is floor, a guy like JRam makes a ton of sense to go get since his production has been outmatching his cost so it solves two issues...

Good insight.. This would dovetail nicely IF a payroll floor is put into effect. We can probably count on any floor to be phased in, imho.. This will give low payroll teams a chance to fund their programs to at least a manageable degree..

Tena not the inf. I would include in a trade. Possibly the best fielding ss on the farm and at 20yrs old leads the AFL in ave & obp.

The asking price for Bryan Reynolds is a pick of 3 of a systems top 5 prospects, on top of 2 young MLB players or MLB ready players and a flier prospect.

The asking price for Jose would be higher.

He’s not going anywhere and, pending the CBA, I’d say there’s a 70/30 chance he is extended vs traded.

So basically Valera, Jones, Arias plus E. Morgan, Palacios and a Tolentino/Durango/Burgos flier. No Thanks, but we knew that already.

Was the 70/30 on Jose or Reynolds? , I'm not sure

He was referring to Jose in the 70/30 part... So 70% chance of extended and 30% chance of being traded....

As Bimbo said, he is not going anywhere despite fan-fueled trade speculation.
Dontcha wish you had a nickle for every time a Player A or whoever made the claim: I want to finish my career with the ________________, the team I'm on.. ?

Aaron Judge just said it today !!..

You are the only one who thinks he will be traded... everyone else believes he will stay in Cleveland.

I dont mind a move with the Rays though since they do have legit prospects and a good farm so it's not like I am against it, but how can we move into contenders by trading away our only All-star position player?

1. Don't characterize what "I think".. YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I THINK..
2. You don't know what everyone else thinks.. Characterizing "group think" is looooney tunes..

STOP DOING THAT.. You are not a censor & this site does not condone censorship.. It's a place to express opinions and thoughts..

It's disrespectful and BULLSHIT to attempt to validate censorship by incorrect and invalid characterization of an expressed opinion !! Cancel nothing.. I succeed in what I do by hiring increasingly smarter people who disagree with me.. give them both the responsibility and the authority to achieve whatever end/goal I set, provided they can support their performance and views without censoring dissent. You're saying: "..I don't like that.. so GSon should stop doing that..." When you put together a team that has MORE THAN ONE/SEVERAL ALL STARS.. you have a chance to compete for a deep run in October.. If you have only one all star.. you DON'T compete. Those teams from 1994-2001 had four, five & six, eight all star players and, perhaps one or two snubs.. Without a DEEP and TALENTED TEAM, you win 80 games and lose 82..

Do I want to understand what you think? No probably not... lol though joking aside

It 100% feels like you are the only one who won't even acknowledge there is a chance to extend JRam... I am not saying you arent allowed to play devil's advocate and since whenever have a said I am trying to censor anyone and it feels like you are being a slight bit hypocritical since you did what exactly what you thought I shouldn't do...

But let's put that aside, since this type of argument isn't good for anyone...

But you proved my point in a way, we need more stars on offense yet it feels like from every post you put up, our only choice is to trade JRam, but we want to compete in 22, so we need JRam to do that, so how can we compete trading him? The answer is we cannot...What's the point of trying to get Happ, Reynolds etc without JRam? There isn't any point of trading for those guys without JRam... if I don't have JRam I am not trading for Happ, Reynolds etc and I am also moving Plesac, no point on keeping him since I won't be able to even compete in 22...

I think the owner/FO knows well enough that we have to build around JRam and we have the assets to do so and JRam wants to have more guaranteed money than 24 million over the next two seasons, but if he asks for to much he risks losing millions as well since he takes a reasonable extension he will earn more money than he currently would be able to. Both sides benefit more extending JRam than JRam going to a new team if JRam truly does want to avoid a larger market since most of the small markets don't have assets money or prospect wise to either keep him long term or being able to pry him away from Cleveland.

I'm not taking sides on this argument because I think both angles are partially right.....or wrong.

What I will debate is the idea that trading JRam takes the Guardians out of contention. You simply cannot state anything of the sort accurately without knowing the return. At the same time you could be correct.

My stance on a JRam trade is determined by possibly extending him along with putting better players around him because JRam by himself won't get it done if you haven't noticed. If an agreement cannot be reached then 2 yrs of JRam is extremely more valuable to someone than 1 yr, but we've been down this road before with other players. For the record, I hope they extend him and build a team he can win a WS with.
