2022 Season - Week #2 - Jets @ Browns - 9/18 1pm CBS

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why do people keep thinking Delpit should be on the outside deep man?

Isn't this clearly Quarters coverage? Isn't that fourth deep zone clearly Denzel Ward's responsibility?

Ward saw Davis run by him towards the sidelines. My guess is he thought it was an out route, so he sat down underneath trying to bait an interception.

Except that's the stupidest thing you could do in quarters. With nobody behind you, it's a TD--especially with Delpit carrying inside leverage on the deep post.

TBH I really don't know who fucked it up, Delpit or Ward.

All I know is that Ward straight up passed off the route which makes me think he was expecting someone else to pick it up.

Maybe Ward botched it and was supposed to follow Davis. Either way it's an absolutely egregious bust for an NFL team.

Seems pretty clear that Ward was supposed to play deep. Corner on the opposite side did. JJIII said not all the guys were executing the same play call. The dude that scored was on Ward’s side of the field. Seems pretty clear that JJIII is confirming this.

Not everyone was playing the same play call sort of puts it on one or more players rather than the coach. Whatever he called it was only one play call. Somebody, or somebodies, screwed up. Maybe the play calls are too complicated or the terminology is too easy to misunderstand, but when a coach calls defense "X" and one or more defensive backs plays defense "Y" it's not the coach's fault.

Man I totally disagree with you here. The bolded is most certainly 100 million percent the coach's fault.

The literal main thing you're responsible for as a coach is making sure every single player on the field knows their assignment.

If they know exactly what they're supposed to do and don't execute it, that's on them as players.

If they don't know what they're supposed to do, that's on the coach 100 times out of 100.

Defensively if you get beat by a great talent on offense, that's fine. Shit happens. Great offense sometimes beats great defense.

If you get beat because your opponent has a great scheme and can exploit your weaknesses, that's sucks, but ultimately that's fine too.

But you just can't get beat because your own guys don't know what they're supposed to be doing. That shit just does not fly in the pros.

300 and 4 TDs for Flacco. It's the scheme. Baker could've had the same line last week, and probably should've.

Move on, get a new voice. Simple as that. GET A NEW VOICE.

What scheme are any of the assistants installing?

It’ll be the same. You have to play a considerable more amount of man, and bring heat.

The scheme is dead set. We understand this. But the room needs a new voice and maybe better coaching in general. Woods ain't it.

Yeah I mean I'm coming full circle on the FIRE WOODS thing. It's gonna be the same thing no matter who they replace him with internally, so it's on Stefanski to tell Woods to play more man and send more pressure.

And the problem is, that isn't how Stefanski wants his defense to play.
