Game Thread | Game #46 | Cavs @ Grizzlies | Jan. 18, 2023

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He’s the best player on the team and has 10 seconds to go full court and get a shot. Of course he wanted to win it.
Garland's my favorite player, but that last possession was on him. We didn't need a three to win. He forced it, we lost, and hopefully he learns from it.

None taken. I knew you was on bullshit. No hard feelings
Haha you were on some bullshit too

But all good, that’s the lay of the land in game threads and I both embrace it and contribute to it

Terrible foul call on Allen. Allen's standing there, and Morant is trying to squeeze through Allen and his teammate. Either offensive foul or a no call. Also, the 5 second count was really quick. The refs made it so difficult on the Cavs last 2 min of the game. Knowing the NBA's track record, their last 2 minute report's just gonna say they got it right.

BUT if you get a chance, watch that last out of bounds play again. LeVert sets a screen on Garland, and then that's it. Nothing else happens. That's the best you come up with in a critical point of the game with 3 seconds on the shot clock? You can blame the players all you want, but when your team is consistently terrible at ATO plays, it's on coaching. There's no way this crap works in the playoffs.

Since he won't get the credit he deserved in a win, and will also get blame for that awful non-inbounds play, Okoro was great tonight. His recent stretch has been wonderful and I hope he never looks back because it could be monumental for this team going forward if he's a confident shooter.

I look at it like this: okoro inbounding was a failed experiment. Hopefully JBB learns from it. Don’t expect him to, but hopefully.

I am 100% convinced this team has a lower ceiling with JBB as coach than it should, unfortunately I cant see Koby getting rid of hi until the team underperforms end of next season

It was the same refs making those pivotal calls against us. It’s unprofessional but I’m convinced these refs hate JBB and it’s why we never get those momentum changing calls our way

I still like JB more than most here and I understood the feeling last season, but it was so short-sighted to extend him like that mid-season.

Why not after the Adams put back did we not have Mobley set a screen for garland so he could come off and then either drive or get a clean look? Instead he’s got a wall of defenders and no one moving
There was a screen set by Allen but Garland didn't wait for it.

Maybe. We need to figure out how to get Okoro and LeVert to play this well when Mitchell plays. I don't think it is a coincidence that they are more aggressive and confident when he sits out.

As for the long five seconds, that is what I thought, too. But I went back and watched it again, and by my count it was at least six seconds, closer to 7, until Okoro released the ball.

Give Memphis credit for tough defense in that last minute. The two possessions I want to have back are the ones where Mobley and Garland carelessly stepped out of bounds.

It's hard to deny that this is a theme this season. As expected, Mitchell cost some internal growth for the young players - and makes it hard on LeVert.

And it makes sense. He takes 20 shots and 6 FTs per night - they are coming from somewhere. Usage rate above 30%.

Just catching up. When we got the offensive rebound with 30some seconds left and a fresh 14 seconds, it was a mistake to slow down. We should’ve attacked to get the best possible shot.

Terrible closing minute to the game.

Yes and it's why, ultimately, you have to bite the bullet and trade some of the guys people don't want to trade.

It's way harder than just "getting them to play like this when Mitchell plays." They largely can't. LeVert in particular in this instance because it's not how he plays.

You've gotta move some high usage players for some low usage ones who effect the game by spreading the floor and rebounding the ball.
