Game Thread | Game #46 | Cavs @ Grizzlies | Jan. 18, 2023

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Fun game to watch. Cavs showed heart. Biggest takeaway is okoro is turning his good stretch into a trend. Love to see that. That changes this team when spida comes back
Maybe. We need to figure out how to get Okoro and LeVert to play this well when Mitchell plays. I don't think it is a coincidence that they are more aggressive and confident when he sits out.

As for the long five seconds, that is what I thought, too. But I went back and watched it again, and by my count it was at least six seconds, closer to 7, until Okoro released the ball.

Give Memphis credit for tough defense in that last minute. The two possessions I want to have back are the ones where Mobley and Garland carelessly stepped out of bounds.

Well they lost by 29 less than I thought they would lose by

Really exciting last 2 minutes but at this point not a surprise ending

I’m despondent. I think emotionally, on a personal level, I needed the sweet sweet satisfaction that a win would have provided

Just game thread shit posting. No hard feelings hopefully. I still don’t agree with a lot of either of your takes but to be fair, I only turned the game on down 5 with 4M left in the 3rd. Didn’t know we had been down 19.

Mobley is just in year two in the NBA. A lot of his peers are on shit teams making their growth mistakes with low expectations. Consider that sometimes. He did some AWESOME stuff in this game and like most young players, some stuff you’d wish he’d have done different.

Allen is what he is. He’s thin. Super thin. That’s him. He’s never gonna get much bigger. It limits some things but it’s also what allows him to be such a great switcher who can defend on the interior and further out. If he was able to do all the things we wanted him to do, he’d literally be a top30 player in the league. He’s not. But he’s still very good for us and the positives outweigh the negatives 9/10 times.

Just my opinion

Because the plays getting drawn up are for 7th graders. You can see the play before it happens and there’s 1 single option every time.

The in bounds plays are largely terrible. Everyone knows where the ball is going and then what the set is gonna look like once it's there.

Add to that, Garland freaks out at the end of games absolutely hellbent on being the hero no matter what and I swear it's worked zero times in his career.

It's bad combination.

Still waiting for Luke Walton to put some type of imprint here.....

An example, on the next to last play for the Cavs where Garland got blocked by Jackson (and Memphis was ok with letting Garland try to Jackson off the dribble), Mobley had Brooks on him. But Garland didn't notice. Mobley didn't notice. The coach didn't notice. Mobley was in a rhythm and they could have exploited that little switch by Memphis but instead, nada.

I'm not yet on the "Fire JBB" train but god damn this guy needs to elevate his coaching or else the potential of this team is going to be held back.

JBB legitimately needs someone to coach him.
I feel the exact same way. I lay off JBB and try to see the good in him. But sometimes it gets hard.

Fans are always going to have problems with rotations.

But inbounds plays? We talkin about inbounds plays? (AI voice)

I do not trust Garland at the end of games. I do not trust JBB’s ATO plays.

Does not bode well for the playoffs.

Good performance overall, but very disappointed in that finish.

None taken. I knew you was on bullshit. No hard feelings

Exactly. I'm super down to see inexperienced coaches fuck up and learn from their mistakes, but it just feels like there's no learning or improvement. It worries me because that tells me someone is close to or has reached their ceiling.

I don't need to see perfection, but would LOVE to see some improvement with some of this super basic shit.

We have struggled all year with inbounds how have they not fixed it 45 games into season

Zero confidence on in-bounds plays. We've had a number of clutch-time failures.

Going with Okoro was curious to start with and then there was barely a play there to get someone open.

Close losses get me hot. I'm mad at the officials for that home cooking quick whistle but JB probably deserves more blame. Fucking sucks given the circumstances. Looking forward to more grind out losses this week.

Memphis plays some nasty defense, and it does all fall on coach. I think that’s why he didn’t call a TO on the final possession. He was terrified of his non-inbounding ass to show out again lol

I think if Okoro continues to hit wide ass open threes that changes things for Donovan. Too many times okoros man sags off and clogs up his room to operate. He just needs to draw his man out and, if left open, punish them.

Every game garland and Mobs have the most frustrating turnovers. I think that will change as they mature though, they’re both still so young. Won’t win a title this year, but if they take out turnovers and polish their game i think they will win a chip. Those two are the future.
