2023 Guardians Spring Training Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I've seen Arias botch so many easy plays in a really short sample that I can't imagine him being a plus glove.

Oh, and another Zunino PB leads to a run that would infuriate me come regular season
Totally opposite of what Tito says ironically.

What is the single most important thing that a SS...or any defensive player...has to do in the field?

CATCH THE BALL.

Joe Giardi, when he was the Yankees manager and had folks criticize his infielders for lack of range, said it best.

They catch the ball.

Amed had two fielding errors last season...ten throwing errors. Balls hit to him get caught.

Notice that Atlanta, certainly a successful franchise expecting to contend this year, just chose to go with Orlando Arcia, instead of one of their highly anticipated prospects.

Arcia is no Amed Rosario.

Red Auerbach said, 'An acre of performance is worth a whole world of promise.'

Which is why Amed is the SS on this team.

In other ST news:

Juan Brito 10/1 BB/K (23 PA)
Nolan Jones 4/20 BB/K (47 PA)
It looked over the winter like Jones was going to start in Colorado somewhere. Now I wonder if he even makes the team.

So Zunino kind of crashing and burning. Not too helpful.

If you can't handle hot and cold streaks then Zunino will torture you. If he is healthy, I expect he will be an overall upgrade over Hedges. But I am rooting for Naylor to be the guy by mid-season.

Here all along I thought Amed was our SS because they had to take him to unload Lindor's contract and to get Gimenez. Well.....that and he's actually worse defensively at 2B so our best SS's are playing 2B and utility. Silly me.

Actually Arcia(104 OPS+) is Rosario(106 OPS+) and most probably see him as the better defensive option so........

Was Lindor's "acre of performance" not worth more than the promise in return?

Is Amed the SS for this team in 23? I didn't think the season had started yet.

I wonder if Giardi's no range infielders could smash a baseball or were they just average players like Amed? Seems very "un-Yankee" to me.

So clearly Brennan can "CATCH THE BALL" and hit much better than Straw so are you for replacing Straw with Brennan or are you just talking out of your ass again?

Remember the brainiacs saying we should DFA Gaddis just because he had a rough few games?

As it should be.

He knows that the tracking data, which is an objective way to evaluate a player's range, says that Amed's range is poor. This was shared by @BimboColesHair multiple times last year.

But rather than discuss reality, he thinks that by just regurgitating some stats, he's making an argument. He's being disingenuous at best.

It's the same thing with someone talking about the entirety of Amed's offense and someone responding "BUT HE HAD A LOT OF HITS!"

Like, yeah, he had a lot of hits--and very few walks, and very little power. When we talk about his ability as a hitter, all of those things are taken into account.
This team won 92 games last season and Rosario was a huge part in that. The bass loves Rosario. There's nobody right now that can match what he does otherwise he would have been moved.

There are a few that can better than match what he does and he hasn't been moved because nobody wants him at the price he's being paid. Pretty much the same reason he hasn't been and probably won't be offered an extension. I understand that you like him, but he won't be here much longer.

There are different reasons they won 92 games last season, but a huge part of it was not Amed Rosario. He didn't hurt them for sure, but he's not what you're portraying him to be. I wish he was, but he's not.
