2023 Season | Series #17 | Cardinals @ Guardians | May 26-28, 2023

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I was there. Two things stood out.

Karinchak and Sandlin played like they were hung over.. zero focus, just comical.

The crowd knew we would lose. No energy or enthusiasm. Cards wanted to win and at least some of the Guards did not. Kwan was super, but the just left him on an island..

Been awhile since I have been to progressive.nice experience. But their game time entertainment staff could stand a trip to the Crew. Might learn something about firing up a crowd..

It's not the same as a fan without the drummer as well... Even the announcers on Fox where saying it's not the same without him...

Game 3 preview:

In the first two games the Cardinals are hitting .159 and have scored five runs, one in the 10th inning when the automatic runner scored without the ball being put in play. Basically they've scored four legitimate runs in 19 innings. The Guardians' pitching has been superb with the exceptions of Karinchak (walked all three batters he faced) and Clase (nearly blew a two-run save).

The Guardians have a few more hits (15 versus 10 for the Cards) but the same number of runs. It's 5-5 after two games. Really tough series to watch.

Jordan Montgomery, a 30-year-old lefty with a 30-29 career mark, starts for the Cardinals. Montgomery is off to a bumpy start with a 3-4 record and a 5.29 ERA, well over his career average of 3.57. He started off just fine with a 3.29 ERA after his first seven starts. But in his last three starts he's allowed 13 earned runs in 14.1 innings. The Guardians should be just what he needs to get back on track.

Right-handed hitters are batting .278/.842 against him. All seven home runs he's allowed have been to right-handers. With runners on base he's been shaky with a line of .302/.896. I suppose the key is to get some runners on base with right-handed hitters at the plate. I'd start Freeman for Gimenez today and obviously put Arias in right field.

Hunter Gaddis takes the bump for the Guardians. Gaddis was awful in his first four starts with an ERA of 7.64. But then came a two-inning relief appearance followed by a six-inning start against the White Sox. In his last eight innings he's allowed no runs and just two hits and one walk. It's like he's transformed himself. Maybe it's just a fluke but we'll find out more today. Gaddis said the difference was "focus".

“I have a tendency to kind of go into cruise mode, so I was paying attention to myself, how I was going out every pitch, and I was just reminding myself to stay focused.”

Gaddis definitely has some arm talent, so if he can continue to focus on one pitch at a time and lay off the cruise control button he can put himself back in the picture or at least make himself into a trade piece. He probably needs to be in another organization that can let him start every fifth day. There's too much competition here for starting jobs and it will only get more competitive.

I think this is a big start for him coming against one of the better hitting teams in the majors with both left- and right-handed talent.

Post-game comments from Tito. I bolded the key sentence for emphasis.

he’ll get the opportunities he needs to do that—no matter how many games I have to throw away.”

P.S.
Oops, I fell for the satire tweet I’m told I should own up to my error so ok I just did.

You should searching for that ever elusive sense of humor.
Sir, this isn't about sense of humor. You didn't post this because you found it funny--you posted it because you thought it was real, hence "Unfuckingbelievable"

When you goof, just own up to it. Getting angry and trying to make stuff up, like you knew the whole time and the people pointing out that it's satire are the problem, is a bad look.

Using a shirtless Kevin Love as your avatar is a bad look.

We have:
Bieber
TMac
Bibee
Allen
Civale
Quantrill
Battenfield
Morris

You can't possibly tell me that we won't be better off with 5 of those guys starting and 2 out of 3 of the remainders (or however many are healthy) in the bullpen, as opposed to Karinchak and Sandlin.

Hell, you can even add Williams to the list but it's just going to be tough to fit him in there.
Not after we trade BIeber to find a fucking bat. Williams slots right into his place.

Agree on all accounts. I was in the bleachers and there was little energy till the 9th and 10th. And this crowd REALLY misses John Adams and that drum..
