2009 NBA Draft Preview

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
How is Tyreke Evans not higher? The guy is basically a mini-LeBron who isn't as athletic and plays PG. He has great size (6-6) and if he plays PG in the NBA he will destroy other PGs by simply taking them to the hole and using his size.

Anyways, out of the guys in the 28-32 or so range, I'd like to get Jerome Jordan. Of course, who knows if we will actually have our pick...

He's been really inconsistent so far this year, and isn't playing as good as he is certainly capable of.

Why are people talking about undersized PFs? No Hansborough or DeJuan Blair.

The Cavaliers need center size and an athletic wing that can play SG.

I think we will end up trading our pick. I know we need to find a center, but I don't think there will be any decent centers left by the time we get to pick.

Did anyone watch Nick Calathes vs Missouri last night? He was making all the right plays. One that really stood out to me was he went up for a layup and drew contact but not foul. Instead of complaining to the refs he just runs over and strips the ball and gets an open layup.

I know there are plenty of Patty Mills fans around here. I just watched the last regular season St. Mary's game... wow, I like them as a cinderella team if they make the Tourney.

I'm sure you guys know Mills had six pins put into his broken shooting hand. His hand is still noticably swollen, but he officially got his shooting stroke back tonight. Perhaps teams will back off of him because of the shooting concerns, but he is absolutely electrifying.

I've always liked their center, Omar Samhan, as well. His vertical is pitiful, but he is deceptively fast for a thumper.

Sorry Mills' fans, but rumors are going around that it is very unlikely that Mills will declare for the draft as he hasn't exactly fed off of his Olympic success, and the injury hurt him.

Ummm, cite a source?

During the game, announcers hinted that he will test the waters. He has been in college two years already.

I like Dujuan Blair a lot.

With you on that, but he has moved up in mock drafts to mid-first. You know who is kinda a pimp of the late first/early second?

I'm not too familiar with college hoops this year (though the tourney should shape my draft ideas...i think) but last year I wanted a guy like Chris Douglas-Roberts, Kevin Love and/or DeAndre Jordan...CDR because I wanted a nice 6th man that could create his own shots when LeBron took a seat because last year we had absolutely no offense when LeBron was out. This year I think we're fine...as Mo starts the second quarter and looks for his own shot (and Wally, Boobie, ect.)...

This year that's definitely not a need going forward...I think we're more complete as a team but there's a few players we can add through the draft or through FA that give us another dimension/more weapons. I'd like to see a:

1. Big Man that can shoot and stretch the floor. Like a 6-10 PF that forces a big to come out to defend him (much like what Rasheed, Horry or Matt Bonner do) that would free up the lane for LeBron to drive (Remember Game 5 against the Pistons...LeBron's two driving dunks were perpetrated by Donyell Marshall standing in the corner).

2. A slasher...As good as Delonte and Mo have been, I'd love to see a swingman who can drive and finish above the rim. Having two guys (one being LBJ) who cut and move without the ball would be a nice thing to have...I'd definitely love seeing LeBron driving towards the hoop, the defense rotating over and freeing up the weakside and having LeBron throw a quick lob for the dunk on that weakside (we'd be taking a play from Miami's playbook...DWade does this pretty often)...I've always kind of wanted to see LeBron be the one throwing up lobs...

3. A Center that can defend the hoop, rebound, score on the low block, ect. Obviously we're not going to get the complete package drafting so late but we can get someone who's proficient in at least one of those things...JJ's a nice pickup but he's not really going to be able to play as a C and Z isn't getting any younger.

Also I would be hesitant if not outright opposed to drafting a PG...We essentially have 4 guys who can handle the ball and initiate the offense (LeBron included) and Mo is our long term PG...A guy like Stephen Curry would make Boobie expendable which would make some fans here happy but is his ceiling really going to be higher than Boobie's rookie playoff numbers (at least in the first few seasons)?

I want Evan Turner first if he's in the draft and then Patty Mills after. I hope Ferry doesn't get a bg man just to get a big, I hope he goes BPA.

I'd take Jerome Jordan, he's got size and defense, something we lack in the post. He's a great shot blocker, and is improving offensively, has a nice jumphook already.

He could be a steal, and since there's less and less 7 footers in the league, you need to grab on to guys like him, they could be the difference makers.
