2012 MLB Draft Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Five tool guy...but not convinced he's a center fielder. The Indians disagree.

Much like Kipnis, kid projects as a "dirtbag."

Plus, probably comes cheaper leaving them more wiggle room for the later rounds.

I would guess he gets signed under slot value.

Yay? This kid hit for power? Average? Both? How's his defense? Why do t you think he can play center, speed?

Another lefty. At least we won't have to worry about him leaving for college. I wish they took a shot with Giolito.

Seems like a low risk pick with high upside. If he packs on some muscle, he could end up being a nice center fielder. Great arm and hitting ability according to all accounts. Not a bad pick, IMO.

I think the power comes.

Reminds me of a younger Johnny Damon, only saw him in one game and I was mainly watching Wacha.

Has enough speed for center, has more than enough arm for all three positions. Just not sure he's a fluid enough athlete for the position. We'll see, I don't think the baseball world is in universal agreement he can play there, but the Indians evidently do.

As Gammons just said, five years from now we may be looking at Giolito as one of the best players out of this draft....but the Indians continue to play it safe and go with the dirtbag low ceiling low floor guy.

While it's nice for me to sit here and say take Giolito...I have to remember that the Indians probably would have had to taken 50 percent of their bonus pool to get this kid signed.

With his sprained UCL, that's a pretty big risk....But you just never know.

It would be cool if the Indians get Cameron Perkins from Purdue in the second round. I saw him play in HS when I lived in Indy and totally forgot about him until now.

And this is a big reason why MLB is broken. The mere fact that GM's have to worry about the first 10 picks slotted money is fucking retarded.

As for Naquin, from what I've read he is an awesome defender (best arm in the draft) who could be a great 2 hitter. Hit for .300+, 30+ doubles, 12-15 HR's. Seems like he could be a pretty good player, but he's a left handed, non power OF (maybe?), something this organization desperately needs.

I'll reserve judgement until I see how the top 10 pans out.

Naquin stated that he thinks he could have hit more homers but his job was to get on base.

How do you pronounce his name? Nay-quin? Nah-quin?

They were pronouncing it Nay-quin on MLB Network. And that was how Selig pronounced it, although I wouldn't put it past him to fuck it up.
