2019-20 Cavaliers Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So the deadline is Tuesday and I haven't even heard a rumour. We need to move forward. We need another piece that we can consider a building block for the future.
If we can't make a significant deal, we will be stagnant for another couple of years. Sorta like the Knicks.

The deadline is Thursday. I don't think we heard any rumors before the Clarkson deal. The Cavs are good about keeping it under wraps in case it doesn't happen.

SportsIllustrated thinks a deal with the Suns for Love would be doable.

"The market on Love appears cool at the moment. His hefty contract is of concern to 2021 free agency contenders, and there isn’t a clear playoff team that could line up a Love deal. The Rockets are light of tradable assets that could match the money owed to Love, as are the Celtics. Portland is the destination du jour, though dedicating such a large share of money to a Love-Lillard-McCollum trio puts a difficult financial stress on the franchise.

Let’s briefly look outside the current playoff picture. Phoenix could become a cushy landing spot for Love, one that comes with a budding young star. The Suns still lurk in the eight-seed conversation, and they have a growing crop of legitimate talent. A Love-Deandre Ayton pairing may hemorrhage points defensively, but it would be quite the appealing twin towers duo alongside Devin Booker. Perhaps Kelly Oubre is a wing of interest. Phoenix remains stocked with picks. If the Suns are looking to battle for the playoffs, Love could be an impact midseason addition. Perhaps a better Love deal lurks in the summer, but Phoenix may be inclined to pounce sooner than later."

I just hope they pounce any time, sooner or later.

Probably some initial trades holding things back. People are waiting on a couple of deals to go through so they can go with their plan Bs

Should take the best deal available for TT and Henson. Sit on Love's contract until the offseason and maybe flip him for an expiring, late first, and young player. Knight's deal will just expire and he'll be a welcome addition to Chinese basketball.

If Koby doesn’t make a move I will be furious. Too many expiring deals not to try and gain assets

Expiring deals don’t have much value at this point. Few teams are in terrible salary situations and/or have bad long-term deals to move. (Unless you want to take on a real anchor contract like Wall or Wiggins.)

This isn’t the same market as a year or two ago. The slew of bad deals in the wake of the salary spike a few years ago have now worked their way through the system.

Wolves are desperate. Swapping Wiggins for Love will net you an asset or two. Especially if you can find them a 3rd team w a PG.

Getting beat down by the warriors was beyond pitiful. The Cavs are an embarrassment to the NBA profession and the city. They are so bad I can't put it into words. Where's that stretch of winnable games?

Gilbert hasn’t told his puppet what to do yet. He might not make a move.

According to nba.com, Garland's defensive rating this year is 113.9, which is not good but it's not the second worst ever seen. Last year they had Sexton at 118.1; this year 117.4.

So it has a lot to do with how the rating is calculated. Bbref incorporates things like steals and rebounds into their rating, NBA.com is a straight per 100 possession rating, and Stat Muse looks at non-garbage time minutes.

Sexton was the worst rookie defensive guard of all-time. Neither he nor Garland will ever be even below-average defenders. It’s a problem.

118.1 down to 117.4...Baby steps...of a flea.

Why would forcing a bad Kevin Love return now as opposed to waiting until this summer make any sense? thats right it doesn't so that is off the table.
Why would anyone besides Dallas who lost a key rotation big to injury recently give up any assets for a rental in Thompson that is expecting to be paid a lot more than he is worth? Thats right even Dallas won't because they got WCS for almost nothing.
Why would anyone besides a team in tax hell want Knight ?
Why would anyone want any unproven young players?
the only real potential assets that could be moved are John Henson and Dellevedova's expiring deals that may be useful as backups or bench cheerleaders to close out the season for a contender, and are going to get the Cavs FO less in return than it justifies just letting Delly walk and offering Henson a reasonable contract instead of opting to overpay Thompson.
The Cavs need to draft better and there is no chance they are good no matter if they do or don't for at least another 3 seasons.
My suggestion is find a different hobby if you expect anything better.
Garland still sucks btw

I honestly feel if the Cavs gave a majority of the front court minutes to Henson and Nance we'd be better. Thompson and Love both want out and neither are great fits with the two small guards we're determined to play big minutes.
