2019 Browns Rant Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
While the coaching was bad, the coach did not have 3 straight turnovers to start the game.

But I am about finished with Freddie.

Were The Cleveland Browns prepared for their game today yes or no?

Not having the players prepared to play so they make REPEATED mistakes, that is on coaching.

You've had preseason and 8 weeks of football.

Enough. This is on you.

Again. That starts with the coach...and...well...you can't keep the guy.

I’m not a fan of Freddie anymore...

But what does your cliche line even mean? “That’s starts with the coach”. When does it become the PLAYERS’ faults for fumbling? Committing false starts? Missing assignments?

Point to coaching all you want, and there’s plenty of blame there, but we have a serious PLAYER problem here too. Freddie can’t do their jobs for them.

One almost misses Hue throwing guys under the bus.

Almost.

Freddie says "we know why we lost, because of penalties", but here's the thing, penalties have been killing us since the beginning of the season. Why hasn't it been fixed yet, Freddie?

There are situations where you can overcome a mediocre head coach.

The Indianapolis Colts had Caldwell for example.

....

The difference is? They had leadership in their locker room and a culture.

The Browns...may have that some day. There are certainly potential young leaders on this team, but you're asking a lot of some of these people who have never really had to do it before.

You're gonna have to break the bank for someone who has experience in that realm. Now...that could be college (Urban, Lincoln) or (sighs) it could be McCarthy...But you cannot go this coordinator route again.

I honestly don’t know if this team would be all that much better under McCarthy (I know I DAMN sure didn’t want him, and still don’t), but I’m fairly confident that they would be a much more disciplined bunch.

That's really the whole point man. We didn't need a coach to come in here and reinvent the wheel. Use our talent to our advantage. We're struggling to get the ball to OBJ effectively. We don't know when to use Chubb. Baker looks like he's learning a whole new playbook every week. It doesn't have to be this complicated.

I couldn't recall who I was arguing with a few weeks a go but there was some table pounding over some sort of playoff apperance.

I argued that even at the beginning of the season? I saw a .500 team and not a playoff one.

To use a weird comparison?. You're Apollo 13. The oxygen tanks got stirred and the Command module's back is blown to shit and right now you're trying to salvage this shit.

The "Moon" (ie: Playoffs) is not an option. Your goal during this season is to keep morale up, make sure baker doesn't lose any sort of confidence and try to at least have -something- to leap frog onto for next season.

This isn't a "HURR DURR MORAL VICTORY" sort of thing. It's about salvaging whatever is possible for some sort of pride so that this team isn't a complete and utter laughing stock .

Objectively thinking and i am not saying Freddie is the right or wrong guy — because I am not qualified to make NFL coaching decisions. So, it seems discipline and focus is the concern with a bunch of adults on a professional sports team — what does another coach do — come in a start spanking the players? Mental errors that lead to fumbles and penalties seems pretty basic at this level — what would a new coach do to change that?

Another coach will do the same thing a new boss would do at a job after replacing the old one. They would put the employees in the best position to succeed. This includes ensuring that they know what they are doing and they have confidence in what they are doing. They're not coming to the office with a paddle. They should make sure that everyone understands the gameplan though. They need to see that people are not getting their jobs done and they might need to make an adjustment. Freddie is doing none of that. He's coaching like a boss who knows he's gonna get fired but also knows that the employees know that they'll be there longer than him.
