In his senior year he was 22/26 on the shorter XP and 20/29 on fg's. He was 4/6 under 30 yards 11/12 30-39 yards and 0 for 3 over 50 yards.

He can be a backup, but he isn't a pro kicker. What he is right now is a pro punter and a very. very good emergency kicker.

Who knows? Maybe with a little professional instruction he's cleaned some things up. Lord knows Joseph and Seibert have been garbage. Gotta admit, it would create really interesting possibilities if we kept both Colquitt and Gillan. E.g. Colquitt punts when we're pinning teams inside the 10, while Gillan kicks FGs and bombs punts when we need to turn the field over.

Our next 2 games should be nothing but FGs. cycle Joseph Austin and Gillian.

I say just give the job to Gillan. He's got a great kicker nickname.
Not gonna lie, I’m hoping he’s so impressive that he ends up winning the job. He’s only getting a chance because Joseph & Seibert are failing, so it’d be cool to see him come in and win it out of nowhere

While I think the majority of teams will oppose it, I truly believe there's a handful of teams that will experiment with keeping a kicker who can also punt or vice versa. That team will be able to add an extra dressed player each weak to combat matchups, (good WRs means the team can dress an extra CB for instance) or whatever. I'm very intrigued by this potential opportunity to gain an edge vs the majority of the NFL.

Kind of seems like Mitchell is slowly locking down the spot opposite Ward. Perhaps I haven’t looked hard enough but it seems as though things have been a bit quiet on the Greedy front the past few practices also.

Honestly if he does indeed hold down the spot heading into the season, I have to commend Mitchell for not just moving aside for a guy who was getting a bunch of first team reps at OTAs (whilst getting plenty of publicity for it). Guy just went about his business quietly and performed on the daily to earn/reclaim his spot on the unit.

Just saying I personally have a high level of respect for approaches and players like that. Still some preseason and practices left so we’ll see.

I thought Mitchell was really good as a #2 corner. I think we are really deep at CB this year

This is a great point. But, if you only carry one guy to do both kicking and punting, then who is the holder? Backup QB?
