2019 Draft, Pick #30 - Kevin Porter Jr., USC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
They are tanking. They don't want KPJ winning them any games
I like KPJ a lot as a basketball prospect. That Houston team is just BAD. They're not winning many games with or without KPJ.

KPJ just won G League player of the week. I thought for sure some would be complaining about it.

Back up to the big club for the season now...

Cavaliers fumbled this one.

The Cavs didn’t trade him because he was slumping or because of lack of talent.

They traded him because they didn’t believe he was emotionally reliable to be a net positive part of their future.

That assessment and whether it was the right thing to do or not will not fully be understood for a much longer time period. HOU bringing him into their roster now is only a early data point, as the issue was never about in court NBA talent.

Too bad that wasn't a conditional pick the Cavs got for him, still feel like the compensation wasn't enough.

I'm fully aware of why they traded him. I'm saying it's likely to be a big mistake. The issues may not be the fault of the Cavaliers (a pandemic put KPJ in a spot where he was idle too long), but im not sure they exhausted their options or were patient enough with the situation.

Ok. Fair enough. I have some of those same concerns.

But him simply being called back up to the NBA, or him having a solid 20 game stretch of play, isn’t the final word on the degree or that mistake, as it wasn’t the talent in question ever. It doesn’t prove or confirm anything. That will bear out over time and will always have a degree of muddiness to it as well.

The only way they fumbled this is if he turns out to be a 15-18 point scorer or an all star AND stays out of trouble in and out of the locker room.

Maybe by trading him they saved the kids life. Maybe he started turning things around after hit even more bottom than he thought he could.

Maybe the cavs did the right thing but all you seem to care about is the basketball side of the decision. Sometimes the person matters more than basketball.

Here is my problem, several insiders have said on here that this was bigger than basketball and they did this to try and help and save the kid but time and time fucking again posters like yourself keep saying the Cavs were at fault.

Seriously, i am serious about this question. Why do you REFUSE to understand that this was never a basketball decision and they felt he would never learn his lesson as a cav. We were even told that they picked Houston on purpose because they felt they were best suited to help him.

What if we told you that players are happy he is gone?

The team had just extended him. There‘s no way they wanted to give up on him but they obviously felt they had no choice. Nobody adds to an investment and then dumps it right after unless something has gone seriously wrong.

The obsession with this kid and the idea that the fault was on the team‘s side when it’s clear the entire NBA considers him toxic is ridiculous. He was picked 30th overall for a reason. Nobody offered more than Houston for a reason.

I don't think the organization did something wrong, I think they got cute. Made a complicated roadmap to getting back on the court, when they should have sent him to the gleague the same way Houston did.

Koby seems like a nice guy, but he is incredibly secretive. That comes off as manipulative.hes been accused of being fake by players before. That's the complaint from the vets on the 2018 team. That's why Andre was pissed about the Allen trade.
